  • [Pictures] Rainy Day Disneyland Holiday Pictures (Dec 18, 2010)

I made a quick trip to the park last weekend. I really enjoy seeing all the pictures everyone contributes from all the parks. As such, I'd like to share a few pictures with you all. Here are some photos of the holiday decorations I captured.

You could barely tell it was raining from the shot inside IASW. Nice photos, I love the rain.

How did you get the people blurred like that?
Great timing on small world with the drummers door open.
              LOVE the pictures--Thanks for sharing!

Teresa, the people are "blurred" or ghosts in the beginning pictures because of the processing I did to create the images... the first set of pictures are called "HDR" images, which stands for High Dynamic Range. In short, I took 3 pictures at different exposures (one "normal", one "light" one for highlights, and one "dark" one for deep shadows) and then combine all three to create one picture that has all the details (also see Wikipedia). Then I bump up the intensity a little, which is why the colors are so deep and almost surreal looking.

The blurring occurs because people moved in between my three shots, and that is how the computer merges the three images.

Yes small world timing was lucky... of course, if I were really on the ball, I would have gotten the picture a few seconds before and had a slightly better angle!

ORDDU: My sisters and I were there that very same day! It became more rainy as the day wore on and by nightfall it was cold and slippery. But we still managed to have a good time.

Thanks! All these pictures were taken with a "pocket" or point-and-shoot style Sony DSC-T900. It is a fairly standard digital camera, but two things I like about it: 1) It can automatically take 3 pictures with 3 different exposures which I use to make the "hdr" photos, and 2) In low light situations it takes a couple different shots and then I can pick which one came out best (clear, not blurry, etc). Granted, on most cameras you can do all this manually, and having the camera do it automatically slows things down because it is always taking multiple pictures, but I really like it.

I would like to have a DSLR someday, but I just don't see myself carrying it around enough to really enjoy it. The best camera is the one you will take with you and use!
