  • [Question] Water in Pirates, Small World, and Splash Mountain

Just curious how the water in these (mostly) indoor attractions is kept clean. Seems like if it were just chlorine, things inside would get kinda "fumey" (like indoor swimming pools). I thought I read another poster once who mentioned that bromine is used instead? Or maybe they use ozone? Would be interested to hear from anyone "in the know".

Thats a lame reply and very obvious at that.

Of course they use filters but they would have to add something or treat the water somehow as filtering alone will not keep it clean. And i imagine there would be quiet a few things thrown in to the water during the day.

Thanks, ThatsMe. This is what I was getting at -- the biochemical treatment.

It's been a while since I paid attention but there has been a chlorine smell to the water at times, especially IASW. Probably like any pool it must have filters and chemicals to keep it safe to contact.

I wouldn't call it clean at all!!! Ever heard of the free Tetnis shot Disney gives you if you fall in the water for any attraction?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

^Thats more for their protection and less a sign of the state of the water. It is also a good idea for them to do that for the bodies of water outside such as the RoA where ducks, fish and other wildlife can.. uhhmm.. "soil" the water.

As far as I'm aware, any water that can come in contact with people needs to be treated to prevent bacteria and whatnot, but I have no idea what is actually used on Disney's attractions.

                .

"Soil" isn't the half of it. I was in line waitying to board a Jungle Cruise boat which had been stopped for a few minutes when a boat came through with only a skipper and additional CM aboard. The CM (not the skipper) had a net attached to avery long handle, not unlike those used by swimming pool cleaners. In the net was a freshly captured dead rat.
Likewise, in the Rivers of America various motor oils, fuels and other lubricants are occasionally spilled.

Meh. One rat in the river isn't nearly as bad as the waste from all those ducks. Now, if the rat bit you, that would be an issue.
