  • Video New POTC 40th Anniversary Video

Today, the Disney Parks YT channel released this video to celebrate POTC's 40th anniversary (a day late, but hey)
    You can see it here.

(pretty cool, but can you say royalty free music? Jeez, they use it in every video)
It includes some very interesting video that I haven't seen before, including video of the ride being prepped for opening and the opening day ceremonies. I haven't seen any other threads on this, and the old POTC thread is long buried, so in this thread we can discuss this cool new video, and celebrate the awesomeness that is the now 40 year old Pirates Of The Caribbean ride.
Please keep your hands, arms, feet, and legs inside the forum at all times.

Why don't they do openings like THAT anymore?
Also, anyone got a link to the full opening day ceremony?

The pirate captain in this opening day footage (which is available on DVD (one of the Disney Treasure DVDs, though I've forgotten which one at the moment) is the inimitable Wally Boag.

There would probably be some sort of stupid PC crap or something with the way people are these days.

Have you noticed how the Disney YouTube account rarely does anything related to the California resort? It's almost all Florida and the cruise lines, with a little of the other parks around the world.

At 2 seconds into the video, you can see monorail tracks hugging the Pirates construction. When building the Indiana Jones Adventure, those same tracks were rerouted much further south to accommodate the new show building.

Just wanted to clarify... the attraction celebrated it's 44th birthday this week, not 40th. It opened in 1967

My bad. I should KNOW that.

Cool! Imagine what it was like to ride right over the POTC building. I wonder if it had any jungle "theming" like the IJA building does.

All of that footage was cut from a Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color episode. The Pirates portion of that episode was released with Pirates of the Carribean The Curse of the Black Pearl when it first came out to DVD.
