  • [Question] Has the 'Partners' statue been confirmed for California Adventure?

I was just wondering if anyone had any information as to whether or not the statue is actually coming to DCA or whether the conceptual sketches of Walt first arriving in California are no longer in the works?

What do we think; would the parteners statue be a sucessful addition to DCA?
Can't wait for December 2012 when I FINALLY get back to Disneyland Resort! My first trip in over 7 years

    I believe it's still planned.

In my opinion, it's a great contrast of the Disneyland statue. Instead of showing Walt and what he has become, it shows Walt when he first was getting started.

i don't think another statue of walt would be a good idea...the first one is a nice homage to him but another would just cheapen the impact of the first in my opinion...let's not just put a statue of Walt just for the sake of it...

I agree, the contrast would be interesting!

I believe it has been semi confirmed. The BVS blueprints that were leaked and posted by Disneyland News Today have a labled spot in front of Elias and Co. Dept. Store for the new partners statue. I think the statue is an interesting contrast to the original one and has that fun, youthful vibe that ties it to the early LA Walt would have experienced.

Putting it in as a direct contrast to the other, and making a statement that this is where he began as opposed to what he completed is hardly "just for the sake of it".

The statue in Disneyland actually has a functional purpose to help preserve the neutral quality of the hub. This new statue is just another little tribute to the lack of faith in the park's ability to stand on its own.

I imagined a statue of Mike Eisner and a sack of money.

Way to miss the point entirely. It not only complements the statue in the other park, but it tributes the original creator of the Disney parks, and adheres directly to the theme of DCA and particularly Buena Vista St. Maybe they should remove the castle at the end of Main St. As well. They clearly have no faith that people would ever think to explore beyond the Central Plaza.

Actually, you missed my point entirely. This statue being a tribute to a feature in Disneyland is part of the problem. The park is being overly infused with references to other works, nothing in the park is about it being its own thing, but is instead intended to stand on the goodwill created by past Disney experiences, be they films or, in this case, Disneyland. I find the theme of Buena Vista Street, a string of Disney history references in a 1920s Los Angeles architectural dressing, to be in the same line of thinking and just as problematic. Many of the names and references would work just as well in any other sort of architectural dressing, because their bigger connection is to The Walt Disney Company and not the history and character of Los Angeles. To compare, Main Street, USA is a Midwestern town that, as part of the details that help to make the place seem lived in and real, uses the names of its designers to populate the space.

As to your comment about Sleeping Beauty Castle and guest traffic flow, I have no idea what that is referencing or even about.
