I'm kind of sad, that was one of my favorite things in the old entrance! I miss the letters, too.

Very good news! I cannot wait to see it come down and like the snows of yesteryear, gone from this earth.

Wow. Had no idea it was so hated. I never minded it. Thought it actually looked very cool at night, especially when the Monorail came streaking through.

Out with one famous bridge, in with another.....

I agree with you! I really think it was charming and truly fit in the theme which is now being so ignored. I get that it doesn't fit in with the theme of the new opening, but it would be nice if they could move it to another part of the monorail tracks.

SO excited for this! And the theme isn't being ignored...the whole front entrance is turning into a 1920's/30's Los Angeles. How is that ignoring the theme lol.

Perhaps "ignoring" is a bit of hyperbole, but so many attractions really seem to be not based on anything having to do with California. Even outstanding attractions like Little Mermaid are not about California, other than saying it's supposed to be like an old California boardwalk attraction.
It does irk me a bit, since I think the subject of California can really be so ripe with countless ideas. They just haven't tapped it, yet.
I do like what they are doing with the entry plaza, gates, and all, but I don't think that's where the biggest problems were. IMHO.

The problem was the whole park. Everything was so mish-mashed together and none of it really fit. It seems like a rushed idea and a poor execution, like they didn't think it out very well and just started building. It has promise though. It's starting to look like now, 10 years later, they are beginning to get a theme and sort of sticking with that, which I like.

Anyone have any official word on the impact of the monorail operations?

                            Re: Golden Gate Coming Down

Yup exactly explodingboy. To me at least it seems like the theme is moving to one that uses environments inspired by California landscapes and ideals and tells a uniquely Disney story. I always hear about the idea of lands being inspired by time periods of 20th century CA history to the 60s. PP being the 20s pier, BVS the 30s LA, Hollywoodland the 40s Hollywood, Grizzly Peak that 50s era National Park (I'm loving the theming additions they've been adding to GRR to help get this new theme), and Carsland while in modern times has architecture that is definitely inspired by 60s Route 66 kitsch.

I like the new direction but there will be some who like the old. I feel Sunshine Plaza was the WORSE area of the old DCA right next to PP (and I've always been a DCA fan and supporter of the potential of a CA theme). The oversized signs, gaudy theming, goofy bridge, just such a hodgepodge of just BLAH. Seeing the Golden Gate bridge disappear will be a great. I can't wait for the more subtle, detailed Glendale-Hyperion bridge inspired bridge lol. It will all be over once those huge signs in the plaza are finally removed. Exciting times!

On the DCA Project it was mentioned yesterday that Monorails would start running on a reduced operating schedule. http://micechat.com/forums/disneylan...post1056578249

I'm from nor-cal and I liked it when I passed under the bridge. For me it was like a reminder of home in my second home! Any word what they're gonna do with it?
