  • [Question] What do you like about the Disneyland Hotel??

In my lifetime, 12 trips to California to visit Disneyland. We have never stayed at the Disneyland Hotel, due to the cost. It is hard to justify spending that amount per night when I can stay elsewhere for much cheaper. I wondered if there are people here who will stay only at the Disneyland Hotel because it is part of the overall experience?? I also want to hear from regulars what exactly about the hotel sets it apart from others and is a must for you to be a part of your Disneyland stay?? We might consider it one day. I guess I am contemplating how much of the Disney experience may be enhanced by staying there. Maybe there is something I have missed out on over the years. Thanks for your input.

I've stayed there a few times. I love it. It's a bit of a different pace from the Grand Californian and the Paradise Pier hotel - in a good way. There's a lot of history there, too. I stayed there multiple times as a child as well so there's a soft spot for it to me. There's some great places to eat there too (Steakhouse 55/Goofy's Kitchen).

I would not suggest staying there until the construction is over, for an overall better stay. I think it's a personal preference, so try it out! There are some great members here that know alot about it's history and could also give some great insight as well.

Have you stayed at any other hotels on the property? There are some nice advantages to staying at them if you are willing to pay!

If money is really tight, then don't stay there. Unlike WDW, where staying on property (IMHO) greatly affects and enhances the Disney visit, I don't think it makes too much of a difference here in California. There are many cheaper, very, very nice hotels just a quick walk across the street.

That said, if you can reasonably swing it, the Disneyland Hotel is a wonderful, beautiful hotel with fantastic service. In my experience (visited many times, stayed once) it does help create a "Disney-ish" feel that I personally enjoy. The same can be said about the Grand Californian and Paradise Pier, as well.

To me its just the experience and your paying for location the on property hotels have great location and can easily walk, like many said their is a soft spot because most people stayed their when they were kids and now stay their with their own kids. I stayed their a few times when i was younger but since then the prices are just to much to experience it anymore

Although I have never stayed there, I must say that the exterior of the hotel is absolutely atrocious looking and in no way "invites me", especially for the price.

I have never stay there or been there in my entire life ever since I visited the Disneyland Resort. I heard that the experience staying at the hotel is fun and it feels like you're in a Vegas hotel without the gambling, casino, and alcohol.

The price is expensive and I don't think it's worth it for staying for at least 1 night. But staying there for 3-4 nights is much more worth the price.

Which is most of the fun of staying at a Vegas hotel honestly lol. I stayed once in the 90's. I liked the under-water arcade, and being so close to Disneyland.. but other then that, nothing that blew me away to make it worth the price. These days I prefer the Lemon Tree motel. Not far from the park, nice rooms, clean, inexpensive and there's a continental breakfast.

What i love about staying at the Disney Hotel is the view.

Get a resort view room it's awesome. You look down from the 10th floor and see downtown disney, the 2 parks, and all the way to the mountains if its clear. It's very pretty at night.

It costs more than other hotels but its a great experience.

I am not even sure I can explain why I love staying there...I have stayed several times, but do not get to every time. Part of it is the whole Disney immersion thing...the hotel, your room, the pool, everything is Disney. The service is wonderful, coffee in the lobby in the mornings, upon request pictures of favorite characters, balloons, etc. waiting in your room when you arrive. Being able to order the extras to be waiting for you when you return at night, choc covered strawberries, Mickey cookies and milk, etc. I have found the staff to go out of their way to provide great service, guest services will help with printing boarding passes, arranging for side trips (we did one once to Universal), VP is the BEST in helping with reservations, Fantasmic seating, baskets, etc. Another perk I enjoy is being able to have my purchases sent to the room. The Bell Hop desk will store your luggage if you arrive before your room is ready, they have helped me twice package things to be sent home via UPS that I could fit into the suitcase....really, anything I have ever needed the hotel provided and did so quickly and graciously.

There will always be a soft spot in my heart for the Disneyland Hotel. Even 4 or 5 years ago when it was starting to show a little wear and tear, I loved it. For me, nothing beats walking out of the main tower, and under the hat to make me really feel the excitement of being back at Disneyland.

I even booked our vacation for this December at the GCH and changed them to the DLH a few weeks later because I knew I would miss staying at the DLH! To me the DLH has a nostalgic, yet timely and classic feel to it that I knew I would miss at any other on-property hotel.

For me time = money. I have stayed off site and I have to say..the time spent going back and forth from hotel to park is a PITA. I like being able to get on/off the monorail and being right there at the hotel. I like being able to walk to DTD and have a variety of places to eat. I like being able to leave the park at noon and easily go back t to the hotel for a little down time.

I grew up 20 minutes from Disneyland, so it never made any sense to stay at that hotel. But I have fond memories from my childhood of seeing that place from the parking lot, and wondering if my parents would ever let me stay there.

It's on my bucket list now, once the construction is complete, I'm going to stay there at least once, just because I've always wanted to.

I've never been able to justify the insane amount of money it costs to stay there. It seems to me at this point, that there are plenty of very close hotels that I can stay at at a fraction of the price. A number of years ago, we stayed about a mile away, and it was no problem at all...buses ran all day, and every time we turned around, one was waiting to take us to and or from the park.

We have stayed at all 3 of the DR hotels. Of the 3 the DLH is the best for the money. If you get a package deal with tickets and the room you can get a good value.
Wait untill the construction is finished, then staying at the hotel will be better.
It is an experiance that you should try once (get the best value you can though).
Part of what makes it so special is that you stay in hotel that has Disney through out. You leave the hotel and stroll through Down Town Disney, then you can enter the Park.
You also get to use the California Grand entrance into DCA.
We keep on looking at the prices and when we see a good deal we will be back. We have gone with going to the park more often and staying at HoJo.
If you only go once a year or every 2 then you should try the DLH to make it special.

It realy comes down to what you want to pay and what you like.
