      The tree decided to "leave".

      Get it, "leave".

Hmm.. it was there during One More Disney day. It's amazing they got rid of it so quickly. Is it even a possibility for the same tree to come back? I don't know anything about trees or landscaping... Is it common to remove such a large tree, and then re-plant it? What, do they have some special maintenance area for trees?

I cant see that tree being unplanted due to the electrical and wires in that planter and seeing the light is in place still. They must of chopped the tree down. Im sure it will be replaced soon enough

Re: Does anybody know what happened to the tree at the Entrance to DL?

It would have been a really busy night, but they could have rigged a sling to the old tree trunk with a crane, chopped it off and plucked it out of there. Drop the tree on a truck, out the flood gates, and deal with it Backstage. Grind the stump enough to get it down below ground level, and have the planter all fixed up and ready for Guests in the morning.

The light was on that separate support pole when the tree was still there, and easy enough to not disturb it. They had to use one, the tree would have swayed way too much. And if they were smart (and they usually are...) all the sprinkler and lighting gear is around the edges of the planter.

Now they'll have a few more fun nights, as they pull the ground-cover plants, cut and grind out the stump to clear out the planter, and quick put some dirt back in the hole, replace the potted plants, and clean up for the morning. Or build a plywood "false floor" that drops in place fast, and cover up the pots with mulch. Repeat till they have a big enough hole cleared out to drop in a mature tree and it's crated root-ball.

I doubt they want to put up a construction wall in the Inner Lobby around that planter if they don't absolutely have to.

After the trees that have fallen down in the park (like the one near the Twain Dock that fell on top of a bunch of Guests) they're watching the trees really closely for rot and damage, and pulling them out proactively before they have a chance to fall.

Trees are also removed and replaced to maintain the scale desired when the park was/is designed. While some species can live in a certain bracket of height for years, som outgrow thier spot. You don't want a tree blocking some views or outsizing buildings until they look minature.

The tree was replaced last night with a smaller one, with no leaves.

The bed center was replanted and two fake rocks added.

The Fiberglas "Rocks" just give them a place to hide power receptacles and light transformers for the tree twinkle lights. And speakers for the background audio tracks.

And some planters they've buried big 4" to 6" diameter conduits leading Backstage for power and audio/video cables that they can use for Filming and Special Events, then they can park the big Generators and dimmer racks backstage to run the lights. They hide the end of the conduit under one of those "rocks" to be less obvious.

Note that they are a fair distance away from the tree trunk - for now. Trees grow.

When I first visited the park 9 months ago, I found the big, old, thick-limbed trees that ornament Disneyland to be the most memorable and beautiful thing about the park. I'm saddened this one was taken out.

Here's a pic (on the left)

Seems like Southern California in general has a "thing" against trees.........not surprised that they chop the old ones down.

Another photo, from 2010, the tree was much bigger.

If you visit frequently, you will see that the landscaping crew does an amazing job. Flower beds are frequently replanted. Eg: For valentines day most planters had pink and white flowers.
