Who (or what) was the Frito Kid?

Does anyone have any information on The Frito Kid? Where was he? What did he do? What did he say? Was he an AA?

Kind of a talking vending machine display that when you put in a coin he spoke and sent down a bag of fritos on a slide (i think it came out of a mine shaft?). Here's a sketch of what he looked like..http://www.lileks.com/match/gallery/75.html

Thanks for the info. I have a dvd from "The Extinct-Attraction Club", and in the opening segment, they have a lot of sound bites from different extincted attractions. One is from The Frito Kid saying "Have another bag of Fritos!" I never knew he was a vending machine. I wonder what ever happened to him.
