The Overlay causes a least 6 to 8 week period for the mansion's refurbishment. The Overlay runs October, Novemeber and December. The month of September is used to install the holiday overlay and January is used to take down the overlay. So 5 months of the year the Mansion is in overlay and closed. Year after year this gets tiring! 7 months for the regular Mansion.

    Ahhhh memories.

Take a year off, you need time to rest and get the masses focused on the 50th. Then bring it back in style next year!

I think the holiday overlay of the Haunted Mansion makes it even more Halloweenish. With all the Jack O'lanterns outside, the scarecrow, the spider web candelabras, even the Tree in the Ballroom is more of a Halloween tree, than a Christmas tree! The only exception might be the graveyard with all the ghostly white snow. But, then you do have the singing Jack O'lanterns, not to mention the twisted hill of Jack O'lanterns that are celebrating in time to the music. Jack makes it even more fun to celebrate Halloween!

Well I am glad it is scheduled to be there, because we just bought AP's and planned to see it for the first time.
Everyone says it is spectacular, I just never went during that time of year.

That would cost too much. But, I hear the third PoTC movie will be Halloween-based, so an overlay can be built for the ride.
(I hear lots of things. Sometimes, I talk back to them.)

The internal TDA computers list the closure of Haunted Mansion for the Holiday Overlay in September and January, so it will happen..

As mentioned earlier, the special after hours party on the eve of the opening of the holiday overlay will not be offered this year.

This thread is going back and forth on every DL news group / board. This is the biggest deal in a long time. Anyway, no big deal loosing the merchandise event. The Holiday HM ride is cool and it WILL be running in the fall of 2005. can't wait to enjoy it again. Great attraction.

Finally, this is not a rumor, it's fact. I didn't hear it from some random attractions CM and I wasn't told by a friend of a friend of a friend. We were all told this in a quarterly meeting not so long ago. Jeeze, cast members are absolutely the worst about proliferating false rumors and then telling guests the same bad info... lame!
I wanted to clarify, that this is not private or privileged information. Basically what I am saying is, it's not like a it's a big secret - this info was freely given to lots of employees and would be provided to any CM who took the time to ask. Besides, it's not like I have a whole lot of access to secret info anyway - well I do know a big secret about the Jungle Cruise refurb: I hear they're adding a loop

I also don't fret anything a CM says- because sometimes we don't know..until we know.
Maybe we ditch the HMH overlay for a Pink and Gold Overlay instead

I believe the overlay is still on but the Merchandise event may not happen - Even though this si the fifth year of this prticualr project. But at what other time during the year does HM generate 45 - 60 minute standby wait times? The summer is the only other time I can think of and that is a lot of ridership to escpae the heat and waste time before your next Splash Mountain fast pass is valid for re-entry.

Hmm, well if they make those quarterly meetings public, there wouldn't be a problem here would there?
