I feel like we talked about this last year when you posted photos, but was the Hotel ever called "Hotel Disneyland" as seen at the top of the tower in the last photo? Or was that simply because the words fit the building that way?
I also love seeing orange groves still in the parking lot, about where PP is today.

Due to the position of the glass elevator, the sign at the top actually said "Hotel Disneyland".
any information on what kind of an event was happening in the tents north of the hotel? was that property controlled by Disney or the hotel at the time?

It was land leased by the Disneyland Hotel. I have no idea on the event but I will try and zoom in to see any possible details. I have several photos with tents erected on the Hotel grounds.
^ Don I don't know if it was on your site or somewhere else last year or the year before (maybe on Gorillas Don't Blog?)... but I seem to recall someone posted a shot of those tents just north of the DLH, and it turned out to be a trade convention of some sort, not related to the DLH or Disney...?

Photos like these always make me feel a mix of joy, sadness, longing, warmth, and heartbreak. I look at photos like this and just feel like "God, how I wish I could go back to that time." Even if it was a time before I was born (which these ones are, by a few years).
*sigh* How I miss the old Orange County, and the old Disneyland I once knew. Just so much of that era that was so good (mostly small stuff, the things that matter to a child, really). It all changed too quickly. *sigh*
Can almost make out my favorite feature of the old Disneyland Hotel.....the modern moat around the tower! The second tower had even more cool water features flowing inside and out.

This is fantastic! I love seeing historical pictures of Disneyland. Closest thing to a time machine without hitting your head on the toilet and inventing time travel. Just kidding.

Thank you, oldhotelguy. Thank you so, so much.
Amen! I was born in '64, so my memories are mostly from the late 70s and 80s. I miss those days. And I'd love to be able to go back to the real early days of the Hotel. What a wondrous time. Thank you, OldHotelGuy!
I had completely forgotten about the golf course behind the Disneyland Hotel. Here's an aerial view of what it looks like today courtesy of Google Earth.
We started going to the park back in 1962. I love seeing the old photos of the hotel as I miss all the shops that were there. I still have a jewelry box my folks got me at Ruggles Gift Shop!
sigpic Hidden Mickey - Historical fiction about Walt that mixes action and mystery with time travel and fantasy! Tweens to adults will enjoy these novels. And now, three gamebooks to play in Disneyland, DCA and WDW Magic Kingdom!

Fascinating OldHotelGuy just fascinating. I always look at the pictures you post but I don't think I have ever thanked you for taking the time to do so.
These pictures were taken the year I was born. So cool.

Thank you all for your kind comments. How about another very interesting picture. Can anybody guess what interesting item the picture below contains? No fair peaking at my blog!
