  • [Question] Advice / strategy fo taking my elderly disabled mother to Disneyland

It is my mother's birthday tomorrow and she would like to go to the DLR and see everything. She hasn't been in over 20 years! She is disabled uses a motorized wheelchair and will only be able to go for maybe three hours max.

I was hoping to get ideas on what time of day and what attaractions we should visit?

I am so excited and want her to see all of DCA and also go to Disneyland and ride a few rides like Buzz and maybe Small World etc... She wouldn't be able to ride any e-ticket rides and has limited ability to transfer. I doubt she could even ride Peter Pan...

So strategy ideas anyone?? It would also be nice to hear ideas from other disabled persons on how they enjoy their visits.

I would get a GAC from City Hall and then route out what you would like to see. DCA will be heavy traffic most of the day. Disneyland will be busy as well because it's a Sunday so I would anticipate that. Maybe pick a handful of attractions that you can both enjoy and plan from there?

Hmmm, I'd avoid Pirates as that's a really slow line, but not as slow as something like Space Mountain! But since you're skipping some of the E-Tickets...if she can do the Haunted Mansion, that's a great experience as you get to go back through the "Stretching Room" and it's a quick line!

Be sure to check out the Animation Studio of DCA... it's air conditioned and has great sights and sounds in the main lobby! I could just sit there for a whole cycle of the video.

And the last thing I can think of for DCA is that I'm not sure how easy it is to get seating in the Aladdin show even for wheelchair access... last time I went with someone in a wheelchair, we ended up in the top seats with a bad view.

I'd also recommend getting there as early in the day as you can stand it, since the crowds tend to build as the day goes on.

Definitely map out which rides and attractions you'd like to see. There's a map of the parks on Disneyland's website (as much of a pain as it is to use) so you can even plan your route!

I hope you and your mom have a fantastic day.

Thanks for posting your trip report!! I'm glad you both had a great day. Disney really does everything possible to ensure access for all guests.

Sorry to hear about your experience with Guest Relations, (not defending them) but sadly I think they deal with so many guests trying to work the system and only get "front of the line" passes. That affects other guests like yourself who are honestly requesting help or have questions.

Love good Jungle Crew CM's! They can make any situation funny and upbeat/positive.
