Howdy Pards,
Imagine growing up way back in the 1950's...and imagine the excitement in a young boy's heart when his Mom and Dad told him we were gonna drive all the way across country from Michigan to Disneyland way out in California. Now, I hadn't heard much about Route 66 when we started out...but, my Dad had always dreamed of drivin' it the whole length. And I wasn't on it for very long before I started to figure out why.
It grew on ya. When you started out in Chicago you kinda thought well it's just a road. But, it wasn't long before I discovered it was really a series of wonderful feelings...wonderful adventures. We crossed the mighty Mississippi River...land of Mark Twain and Riverboats and such...explored Meramec Caverns where deep inside the cave they had a beautiful formation called the curtain and Kate Smith once sang God Bless America there live...but they played a recording of it when we visited and, well, I always get goosebumps when I hear her singing that song. When we crossed over into Oklahoma we stopped at the Buffalo Ranch...and it was there that I had my very first Buffalo Burger! We traveled through Will Rogers country...then through the great American West...I remember those "Jackrabbit" Indian Trading Post signs well. So many things...delightful things were experienced on that journey...memories that have stuck with me for a lifetime.
Well...needless to say...the movie Cars stirred up those memories once again in great detail...and, now, Cars Land is very much like a monument to the Mother Road. You can FEEL the love that was put into every little detail of the place. It's a monument too, of course, to cars of all ages, shapes and sizes...a monument to the spirit of America in many ways...especially to small town America. It celebrates the good things in life...things like love and friendship and doing the right thing...
Well, I suspect I'm not the onliest one who feels this way about the film, and the park, and that wonderful Mother Road...I reckon it's called love...and, to my way of thinkin', that's a good thing. So...here's a sharp salute to the folks at Disney and Pixar...ya done good.
Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.
