[Chat] Water-Based Attractions at California Adventure

There's been a lot of discussion about what California Adventure needs next.

Disneyland has six water-based attractions I can think of (NOT including traffic on Rivers of America). In my opinion, California Adventure desperately needs some more water-based attractions to create the rich variety expected of a world-class theme park. Plus, in So. Cal., water means cooling off when the sun is blazing.

What type of water-based attractions would make sense at California Adventure given the expansion areas available, themes that would make sense at DCA and not duplicate what's already at DLP?

Or, is there some operational reason that Disney would no longer build an immersive water-based attraction like It's a Small World, Pirates, Splash Mountain, Jungle Cruise, etc.?

One is enough for a Disney theme park? Seems to me like 2-3 would be more reasonable, including at least one water-based dark ride.

Well...they would best be suited for Paradise Pier, but I don't know where you'd put it. The house for Mermaid is the prime dark ride real estate in the area. Maybe Bug's Land?

DCA's only got GRR. As much as I enjoy those kind of water rides, even the most elaborate river rapids attraction doesn't equal the number OR quality of Disneyland's water rides. I think a water-based dark ride would be a great type of ride system to put in DCA.

A lot of people have called for a flume/dark ride to replace GSS.

There's hardly room with the hotel there. People need to get over their bashing of Goofy. It's quite handy if you have kids who are in between ages for big coasters and small kiddie rides. Like Gadget.

Maybe a dunk tank below the Jumpin' Jellyfish, that would be more realistic anyway.

Would love a boat-based ride in DCA as the next E ticket.

Disneyland has Small World, Jungle Cruise, Pirates, Splash Mountain, and the Canal Boats. All of them add a nice sense of scale to the park.

I agree. In fact, an elaborate special-effects-filled riff on the classic "Tunnel of Love" would make sense on Paradise Pier. I think Tunnel of Love rides were scary (getting folks closer together so to speak) so this could be almost a water-based version of Mr. Toad's (maybe not quite as manic, but with some startling events). Disney could draw on decades of charcaters/scenes, from Fantasia to Monsters Inc. to create a tour-de-force of villains and frightful elements.
