[Question] College Major For Theme Park Career?

It's probably been asked before, but I couldn't find it.. What would be a good major in college to pursue
a career in the theme park industry? (not necessarily Disney, but it would be cool!)

I'm looking at a hospitality major which some sources recommend, but then again a lot of colleges make it sound like a lot of it is hotel or restaurant based, which I wouldn't want to limit myself to... Any ideas?

Hospitality is good. If you want to go into the business workings, I suggest Business.

I think Disney/the Theme Park business is now so huge that almost any major in college can be applied to it. I guess wether you end up working for them or not depends more on looking for opportunities (and taking them) Hope it comes true for you!

If you can get into accounting... you can make some big bucks.
If you CAN do accounting, I admire you.

I agree with Mr. Disney. Disney is a big name in hospitality, but in a company as large as Disney, there's room for just about every major.

It really depends on what you just have a passion for doing. The themed entertainment industry is not just limited to parks and there are a number of different fields involved in the industry.

A definite mixture of business, law and economics, plus some anthropology and psychology, a a bit of art and theater.

Study business managment. If you can handle school and a job at the same time, work in the service industry or retail and try working at a them park in the Summer. This way you will learn how to manage people, work with customers and in teams. Also it will put you in theme parks earning senority.

There are tons of options out there that can be applied to theme parks. I mean for a few examples- marketing, merchandising, public relations, accounting, taxation, human resources, legal, graphic design, education, civil engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, information technology, intellectual properties, sound design, lighting design, architecture...the list goes on and on! Follow your passion and then figure out how it can apply to a career in theme parks!

I was actually considering Marketing or PR! When I look at the Disney Careers website, I do see a lot of different things that one could do!

I've been trying to convince my daughter to go to Cal State Fullerton and work at Disney to help put herself through college. I need the employee discount. She should do me the solid. I did raise her. Sorry--off topic.

I would say that if you want to go into theme park work, whatever you major in you should get a job at Disney (if that's who you want to work for) and work through college. That's how you network it!
