  • [Question] Original vs Movie Tie-in

So i thought i'd ask everyone here, although we probably wont get a well rounded answer in here...

Does the subject of the ride dictate your enjoyment of an attraction, or can you enjoy any ride as long as the quality is good?

Well-rounded poll results are often the product of well-rounded poll questions. This poll, unfortunately, leaves out one important and often-voiced opinion on this topic: it doesn't have a category that reflects what many posters have said for years, namely, that it's not an issue of movie-based rides vs. non-movie-based rides, it's an issue of balance -- the desire to see Disney maintain a mix of both, instead of just promoting brands, brands and more brands.

"Disneyland is all about turning movies into rides."

I was actually wondering why the poll didn't mention the balance! ) But you're right, that's the main issue.

        Re: Original vs Movie Tie-in

I enjoy a number of Disneyland attractions which are based on movies... but interestingly when I look at my top five favorite attractions in the park, none of them happen to be based on movies. They are all original concepts and became recognizable icons in pop culture strongly associated with the park. They are some of what I would think of as the most quintessentially "Disneyland" attractions.
When it comes to the influx of movie based attractions replacing older classic attractions, I fear Disneyland losing that which made it what it is.

I would also like to see movie tie ins get original stories like with indy, star tours, toy story... not just a 2 minute telling of the movie!

This. Whether in concept or the story SOMETHING has to be original. Dark rides get a pass though
In the quest for quality, I have no problem with the characters footing the bill.
