Re: Old Subs -- Captain's voice

I'm telling you, its John Considine. Here is a Youtube video of the Star Wars Radio Drama. He plays the voice of Lord Tion.

Whoa! That DOES sound like the Captain...hmmm...

I think this is the best theory thus far. Thanks!

I still think it sounds like Richard Dawson. I'm definitely wrong on that though.

Yeah, I think the final conclusion is John Considine. Good job Walt Fan!

Great find and really does sound like the same person! So there's a minor mystery potentially solved. Very good stuff.

Re: Old Subs -- Captain's voice

Thanks everyone. I first bought those SW radio dramas back on cd in the early nineties and being a huge Submarines fan, I was blown away by the voice coming from my speakers. "Hey its the submarine captain!" I think I went to the park that night just to ride them after listening to his singular voice. I miss the old subs

I'm still pretty sure that the original captain's voice was Paul Freese.

Re: Old Subs -- Captain's voice

^ Definitely wasn't Paul. His normal acting voice is very distinctive -- you can hear it on George Pal's War of the Worlds and Howard Hawks' The Thing. His regular speaking voice can be heard on the Haunted Mansion outtakes. Doing an A-B comp with looped phrases from the old Subs narration, it's not the same sets of pipes.

A-B'ing Sub Captain loops with the Star Wars Radio Drama that Walt Fan linked to, the Captain increasingly sounds like a dead ringer for John Considine. There are a few distinctive "melodic signatures" in his Star Wars delivery that are a match to those of the Sub Captain. Playing a bit with the speed and EQ (the Captain's character is more laid back and matter-of-fact than Lord Tion), you can match pieces of them almost perfectly.

Further corroboration would come from comparing the Sub Captain's voice to Considine's in his many TV and movie appearances.

I have appointed myself the final arbitrator in this decision - and I say that this is affirmitivley and without a doubt John Considine. lol - but seriously - that is NOT Frees, and it is not Ronaday and it is not Ravenscroft. I know this because it sounds nothing like them. It does sound exactly like John Considine. So hearing it with your own ears should be convincing enough. Unless someone else sounds EXACTLY like him... lol -- sorry for being such a wiseacre :P

I agree -- it's John Considine. Whew -- this is such a relief to me! Thanks to all of you who helped solve this mystery!

I'm not so convinced, then again I didn't spend hours studying it either. But there's a solution. Actually, two.

Well, according to IMDB John Considine is still around, and among this motley crew there has to be /someone/ with the chops to get the contact information through working at a Studio or a big Agency... Someone call him up and Ask Him.

The other solution would be to call the Disney Archives and see if they can track it down. That one's right in their wheelhouse.

Or maybe we should ask Dave Smith, the former chairman of the Disney Archives. I bet you he would know.
