  • [Chat] Blue Fairy in Pinocchio's Daring Journey

I've always had trouble seeing the Blue Fairy at the end of Pinocchio's Daring Journey. Actually, I don't ever remember seeing her at all!

I finally got a good look at her via someone's video.

But I'm wondering why she seems so elusive "live". Maybe it's because she appears for just a couple seconds, and maybe I'm just not looking at the right spot? In the video (above), her appearance is very brief, but at least it's there. Also, in the video, she "disappears" rather suddenly -- is this how it's supposed to be?

I thought I'd read somewhere that there is supposed to be an effect of her fading away, with nothing left but some "pixie dust" glittering in her wake....but I don't see that effect, either.

Is the effect not always working, or could it be made more obvious? Am I the only one who finds the Blue Fairy so difficult to catch sight of?

I see her all the time, but then again, I look for the Peppers ghost trick.

The Blue Fairy has never appeared for a long time. As your cart continues to pass by her, the more she starts to disappear. I've never heard of this pixie dust thing. I've never had a problem catching her. Maybe you really are looking the wrong way, lol.

I never even knew she was there until a couple of years ago. I saw her and I was like, "Whoa, cool!" Now I see her every time. It is a very brief moment that she appears. A lot of people probably don't notice because they're too focused on looking directly at Pinocchio and Gepetto in that scene.

I've never had a hard time spotting her. I didn't know anybody did.

            This.
The pixie dust effect is on the ground. There are blue lights that look a little like pixie dust, if that's what you want to call it, on the floor where she was standing.

In the OP's thread, the vid link shows some of the dust. There is dust twinkling where she disappears from and off screen as some have already said, there is dust on the floor (not shown in that video).

To see the "poof dust" (what I call it), try to view it frame by frame. Unfortunately, whoever took the vid, pans away to the left after only getting to see the poof dust (lol! sounds like a "fairly odd parents" thing huh?) for about a half of a second. I took a screen shot, and if I can fig out how to U/L it and show it, I will.

I know, not very cool, but the quality isn't there in this video. Maybe someone can find another? Anyway, for now, this is all the proof I have of the Poof!
It is best in person of course, just try to stare at her next time and not Gepetto and Pinoccio.

Yep. The Blue Fairy's disappearing act is a Pepper's Ghost effect. The largest example of the Pepper's Ghost effect is in the ballroom scene in the Haunted Mansion. All the ghosts in there are reflections.

I have had trouble seeing the effect as well -- it appears too briefly for me. Perhaps the Imagineers can swap places between Gepetto and the Blue Fairy so that the line of sight for her is better!

I remember on our first trip (1983-84) after new Fantasyland opened the Blue Fairy effect was really good. The glass was perfect and the Blue Fairy was really bright. She was there when the doors opened but quickly faded away and the fairy dust was sparkling crisply on the floor. If you were distracted you wold not see all of the effect and I think many people missed the floor effect. Not when you come through the door she does not seem as bright and more often than not it seems like the light just goes out instead of her fading away.

Could be intentional, or it could be the ravages of time. In order for a Pepper's Ghost illusion to work well, the glass must be clean, the light bright, and the figure bright. I know that over at the Mansion, dust, grime, and oil get onto the figures (especially the hair) and lessen the effect. It could be that the Blue Fairy needs a good cleaning.
