  • [Question] Disney Ride Vehicles Redesign

The redesign of the boats for It's A Small World was well-publicized. Since Disney uses so many different types of ride vehicles throughout the various attractions and parks, I was wondering -- have other ride vehicles gone through redesigns (minor or major) since their start of operations?

I believe the Splash Mountain logs have had padding added from their original form.

Or making ride vehicles that can be used in either direction, matterhorn backwards would be intense

I remember Tom Sawyer rafts practically swamping in the 70s. They seem awfully close to the water level in this old picture compared to today.

Weren't Space Mountain's vehicles also redesigned to add in speakers for each seat? I don't know what it was like before it reopened years ago, though.

People Mover had cages added around the vehicles since the attraction had 2 deaths where someone fell out. Also, while the current fleet of boats are repainted, the boats in their original colors (blue, red, green, yellow) do look different from how they looked in footage from "Disneyland: From Pirates of the Caribbean to the World of Tomorrow". I wonder if Pirates also had a need similar to Small World?

Snow White's Scary Adventures had radically different, two-seater cars when it opened. Click here for a picture. The current vehicles debuted some time after 1975.

Also, the cars from Mr. Toad have changed somewhat since opening:

The Roger Rabbit vehicles had a door added after a child fell out and was badly injured (and later died.)

You mean the SW boats that take a person in thier own chair/scooter? Right?

A POTC version would drastically intensify the drops!
                    1. they would be in the back, the boat lifts up a bit just like a teeter-totter
                    2. they would be up much higher and their center of gravity would be off. when the boat sways it would exagerate thier motions!

                    (It kinda sounds like fun)...
                    take a look...
