  • [Question] Does WDI read and consider our ideas and suggestions?

First of all: I am so sorry for my terrible and poor english. I am from Brazil. So, English is not my native language. Please, forgive me for the incovenience.

Well, I always read MiceChat forum and I really like it. Also, I always see people giving great ideas and suggestions here. I was wondering if WDI even read or take our ideas in consideration. Some ideas are very very good indeed.

    Hugs.

I do know that disney monitors the site, but i don't think for ideas or suggestions. When disney does focus groups and surveys they ensure to get a more well rounded opinion, not just mega fans who are (for the most part) going to the parks regardless. I'd venture to say that the majority of us are AP holders and massive Disney fans so they don't need to do a whole lot to keep us. Usually with fans like us it would take something massive to drive us away.

I understand. I really think Disney should read some ideas posted here. Well, in the last couple of days I have been have some ideas for DLR. I will create a thread showing them. I hope you enjoy.

Just a question... I always read people commenting about parking space, that parking space now is not enough. I would like to ask how many spaces are needed to park at DLR?

I also would like to know if Disney owns the entire block of Toy Story parking lot. They don't use the entire land surface for parking. And the "south" and "east" parts of the block are filled with houses and motels. I also would like to know if Disney owns the land "north" to Sybron Dental Specialties, where the West Coast University and Quality Inn and Suites are hosted. Just to confirm, Disney own the Sybron Dental Specialties land, right?

Hugs and forgive me for my poor english.

They do look at these sites as well as social media and they use the information as "survey data" and nothing more. Usually they avoid getting ideas from sites like these due to legal reasons. Not saying that ideas from sites have never been done or thought about.

Yeah, I don't think they really look at ideas on here. Just opinions and criticism probably. I remember one time the billboards at Paradise Pier had a printing issue and the picture on the billboard wasn't aligned. Someone took note of it here and like a week later Disney fixed it. Whether it was just coincidence or not, I think Disney gathers some survey data.

yeah, unless they are already thinking of something and we are all supportive of an idea someone as as a theme (with no specific details) WDI can't use our ideas as it could create legal issues. but they can get general feedback from fans about things like what we do and don't like in Tomorrowland. Or whether we'd rather see Oz or Lone Ranger and something else for the Frontierland/Fantasyland expansion pads. For instance, I'd rather see something with a Lone Ranger tie in in the festival arena, and a Beauty and the Beast (and maybe Tangled) dark ride(s) taking the place of the Fantasyland theater.
            Trips coming up:

            May 22-26th
            July 13th-18th

Id like to think that they read the boards. That might be a good question for Al, Dusty or Fishbulb. I do think of these boards at a great resource of ideas, comments positive and negative.

I remember reading somewhere that Disney will not use any of your ideas or take ideas mailed to them due to legal reasons. If they used an idea posted on here, someone could sue or demand money etc.

The best way to kill a truly good idea from ever happening is for it to be posted on a public forum such as this. Even if somebody else inside the Company ha that same idea, moving forward opens up too many potential legal issues.

Yeah, seriously. Some native speakers of English, I really wonder...

As for the actual question at hand, I bet they look here for some feedback, but like other posters have said, they take it with a grain of salt. They also can't use the ideas posted here, for legal reasons.
It's easy enough to be pleasant
when life hums along like a song.
                        But the man worth while
is the man who can smile
                        when everything goes dead wrong.

Of course, Imagineers probably wouldn't pitch/promote ideas online to gauge guest reactions and drum up support for certain projects.

Why would Imagineers look here for feedback? Here's why they wouldn't:

                          1. Miceage isn't representative, what the hardcore fans want is different from what the general public wants.
                          2. There are too many malcontents here which enjoy shooting down a project for the fun of it.
                          3. They might own the ideas, if working on the clock for Mickey, but how would they prove that if they are using a screename?
                          4. A lot of the Blue Sky process is insular and inspired by things other than internet chat boards.
                          5. Disney does plenty of surveys in the park, they did a lot of surveys of DCA after it opened.

Well, it is a way to kill an idea, but I see how it would be okay to move forward if you have the idea notarized prior to the person posting their idea. I remember people mentioning the idea of a Buoy for FNSV and they created it anyway. If they can easily prove that they came up with the idea first, then they can move forward with it.

You are pretty much right about that. As I understand it, they have certain special procedures to handle unsolicited ideas that are sent in to them so that someone cannot later say their idea was "stolen" and demand payment. I'm not sure how they handle stuff that is posted on the Internet. A few years ago, prior to Disneyland's 50th anniversary celebration, Disneyland did solicite 50th celebration ideas from a Disney fan group that I belong to and I participated. You basically have to sign away all rights to your ideas to Disney for forever and and then some when you do that!

I think MiceChat should post some legal notice that renders any idea posted here part of the public domain, and Disney can use any of them for free.
Then Disney could use the ideas and not worry about losing some lawsuit claiming that it stole the idea from some random poster on the internet.

I would like thank all of you here for the comments and answers. You are very friendly and nice people.

I know I am goona look like dumb, but I do not know how to make multiple quotes. So, I am gonna make my comments.

I am on my studies break this week and I am not so busy in the last couple of days. That said, I decided to think on ideas do make DLR better and improved. I am gonna share my idea, mainly because I think Disney will never use a similar one. Also, I would like to know what you think of what I created. Everything is still very shallow, I only have an overrall idea.

As soon as possible, I am gonna create a thread. I hope you enjoy.

Hugs and thank you so much for your attention.

As others have posted, Disney's policy is to not read unsolicited submissions, regardless of the source or permissions offered, unless submitted by a licensed agency or management company. They're not unique in that regard; the same policy is followed by virtually every business that deals in intellectual properties.

Disney does, however, regularly read (and regularly shill) this site and other social media sites for PR and other purposes.

By way of background, discussion on this topic goes back to the early months of MiceChat, in threads including:
