  • Video Matterhorn Climbers Point of View @ Disneyland

The scalers have a slogan that you will hear them shout out in the video: "We are the Matterhorn Climbers, and this is our mountain!" It's a long way down, and I think I'm afeard!!!

Cool. One huge difference between now and 1959 is that the climbers in 1959 didn't wear helmets! I am sure this new addition is not to present some new kind of show.

Agreed. I think the helmets are worn to keep them from rocking out....the hard way. Difficult to believe that climbers have been scaling the mountain for 5 going on 6 decades. Whooee!

Yes! I was waiting for this video to come out. It looks like so much fun to be a Matterhorn climber.

i checked with Disneyland's Guest Relations and they said that there are no exact schedued times that the climbing takes place. But, they did say that they will scale the Matterhorn all summer long, seven days a week, from morning 'till dusk. Based on this, I would attempt to be at the mountainwhen the sun is low on the horizon, but before dusk. You also might try asking some of the Matterhorn ride opporators as they might be friends with the climbers.

Glad that I was able to get the info to you, 2ndStar2theRight. it is pretty cool being able to view the beautiful park far below with a bird's eye view, so to speak. You are one great person.

You can usually see them from the HUB and probably more in the morning, and late afternoon, before and after the heat.

In the past, I've seen Mickey and Goofy climbing. Did they climb the entire mountain, or did they "cheat" by starting near the top? I can't imagine climbing in one of those costumes!

I think Mickey and Goofy were playiing basketball in the Matterhorn gym, and then snuck outide and posed as mountain climbers. I don't trust thos two for a split second.

I see they are using a GriGri to belay, instead of a standard belay/repel device. That is cheating! At 0:35 you can see him struggling to feed the rope through it.

I saw the GriGri, although i didn't know what it was before you pointed it out. Since he's cheating, it serves him right that he's struggling.

Wow... I didn't know they scaled the front side of the mountain where the "hook" leans fwd. That is pretty intense to watch! I always thought they came from the backside (TL side) when hitting the peak. Great vid!

Perhaps they do come from the backside sometimes. These three were straight on bent for an adrinalen rush. I's easy to get hooked on thier brand of climbing intensity!

Glad that you caught them. Don't think too many have seen those musicians before. They are downright sneaky, as I strongly suspect they didn't scale the mountain to get to the level place they are standing..

They seem to come out around 10am-ish. But it's such a tall mountain, you can see them throughout Disneyland and even from Disney California Adventure. So just keep your eyes open wherever you are in the parks.

The climbers start about 1/2 way up. They start above the highest point of the ride tracks. As Ride Warrior said, they start where the basketball hoop is inside the mountain. There is a cave entrance (faces towards Small World and ToonTown) in the side of the mountain. You can't see it from the ground because it's hidden behind a little wall or ledge.

When I used to work the night shift, a few times after the park closed, I would run up there and stand to look out over the park. I was working in the mountain (cleaning the SMALL break room) then I would go up and look out.

Very cool video. Thanks for posting it.
