  • [Chat] Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland has been covered by scaffolding for two years now. It's getting embarrassing already. Come September, the ride should be closed down to reconfigure the vine sequence. Personally, I would change it by creating a false hill underneath the track during the vine part, just like in this concept art.

Rock work could come up to the track to create a garden environment. I personally thing there is no way to keep the vine as is while maintaining the aesthetic integrity.

I wish the vine could come back to original form! Knowing that will never happen I like your idea! Something pleasing to the eye is very needed!

I took this picture over a year ago and that tacky tarp and platform are still there.

Is the ride actually going down in the fall, or do you just want it to? If it is, approx. when will they be done?

Ugh, I hate all those tarps and ugly "safety" rails. It's been too long.

I really like that concept art, though. If they actually did something like that, it would look better than I could have imagined. But we'll probably just get more "themed" safety railing (or perhaps even a cage) that looks like vines.

Nothing is actually wrong with the ride OSHA saftey regulations threatened to shut the ride down because the vine section could not be safely evacuated so this was Disney's quick fix that has lasted way to long!

That would be a wonderful solution, it certainly looks beautiful! I hope they do something along those lines!

OSHA didn't threaten to shut down the ride, Disney took action voluntarily, knowing the outside section was a worker safety hazard and in violation of California worker safety regulations. See the numerous threads from the last two years that detail how the situation came about and why Disney is taking so long to fix it.

I actuallllly like that idea! if they could do a trelles cage of vines, it would kinda work with the nonsensical theme... GP is happy, fans are somewhat happy, and the Disney lawyers are bouncing off the walls!

I'm sorry, but how is it OSHA's fault that Disney can't design something that is aesthetically pleasing? OSHA enforces safety rules. Disney decides how its parks will comply.

What I don't understand is how the vine portion is suddenly considered a "hazard" -- when for more than 40 years, there was not one incident with any guest and/or cast member.

That's been explained in the many posts and threads on this subject. Bottom line, the fact that "no accident has happened" does not mean a situation is not an accident waiting to happen.

There's no argument that the vine is dangerous, particularly to workers. The argument is about why Disney has taken so long to design a fix.

A new design fix must include a retail outlet crammed full of AiW themed clothing and trinkets for little girls?

Exactly. Logic to the contrary led to a relaxed maintenance schedule on Thunder Mountain because "not one incident with any guest and/or cast member" has ever happened. All it took was one part to fail and the train flipped over.

Since we can't have the ride back the way it was, I actually love the concept art.
