The "Radio Days" post just made this pop into my head. Does anyone rememebr a site that had streaming audio of DL's two way radio feeds?

I seem to remember this, but maybe it just listed all of the code names they use over the securtiy radios.

You know like we have a 101 (e-stop on a ride). Something like that.

We used to take a scanner with us to listen to the Parks activity while we were in our hotel room. I don't know where the frequencies are now...

Radio Shack sells the CD that lists the channels.

Not quite, as U comes out of the opposite end from V.

WOW!! I am sorry but I don't understand why people who don't work at DL would wanna listen to our radios! Maybe someone can explain to me why there is a fascination with the radio calls ... anyone?

I met up with some friends one night and we all sat around & listened to the crew running Fantasmic. Since we'd all seen the show so many times that we knew all of the cues for all of the effects, it was just cool to listen to them being called over the radio. It also lets you know not to head to a ride that's just had a 101 or Code 'V'.....

While I don't really understand the interest in listening to these radio calls either, I don't think this is just a Disney thing. I remember that my grandfather would listen to a police scanner all night long (I got a speeding ticket one night and he called my house to tell my father). Others like short wave radio. Seems like a logical extension of the hobby for someone who is in to Disney.

I guess you haven't heard 3rd shift security. They are a riot! It is also fun to hear the calls when they are looking for guest hidding in the park. Or flashers on Splash.

It's fun to listen to all that goes on to run the place. Sure, if all you hear as part of your work is outdoor vending or janitorial, then it would seem boring. But operations, security, and entertainment can provide great humor, especially during a busy day. And sometimes it can be downright helpful if you know ahead of time that they're going to cancel a show or if an attraction is down.

Really tho, it's just part of my interest in how a big park like DL operates.

Yup. I blame my father who started me off way back in the early 70s listening to shortwave. I still do it, especially when I'm out in the desert, kicking back with a glass of wine and watching the stars come out. Something about listening to the music and news of the world, coming from China, or Germany, or Iran, or Brazil, with the "locals" perspective, and just enough signal strength to remind you that it really is skipping off the atmosphere and ending up (tens of) thousands of miles from where it started.

The cop thing is just a derivative of that. They put up with some stuff that's amazing to listen to. Ditto with Disneyland.

Ok...ok... I get the helpful bit. I try as we might ... we have the info board out there for a reason. I understand the peopel working that board are human and sometimes miss a call ... but 9 times out of 10 their board is pretty right on, considering they call attractions every HOUR to see what the CMs at the attraction say that wait time is.
I guess I uderstand now why you guys like it. For me though ... it is a job. When I hear that Pirates has gone down ... that means it is time for me to get my butt in gear and my job is about to get a little harder. So, since we listen for different reasons ... we als ohave different reactions to the radios and the calls that are made on them.
Thank you everyone who replied to help me understand this ... this is something that I have always wondered!

I like that list of radio-band codes, but it is incomplete. Here are a few that I picked up on while at the park:

                        "this is a/we've got a:"
1010: mobile home/rv parked on the grounds that is leaking waste and scaring kids.
1015: over-heated senior citizen guest is yelling at children that are not their own.
                        1020: incident in the restroom.
1035: cast member stealing jelly beans or other hard candies from the Crystal Arcade.
1039: guest pointing a firearm from the shooting gallery at another guest who is patiently or not so patiently waiting for his or her turn.
1049: customers of the Blue Bayou throwing food at POTC riders.
1049.5: riders returning the food to the eaters.
1070: someone has fallen from the rails of the Swiss Family Treehouse.
1075: indecent exposer on splash mountain.
1099: some of the ghosts actually did follow someone home!

These are just the ones I overheard. With this kind of detail, I can't imagine just how many there really are!
Cosmo Kramer: Well I can't go back to the public courses now! I can't! I WON'T!
