Well, it had been years since my last vist to the Disneyland Resort, but thanks to all of my friends on Micechat I have watched every detail of the makeover from afar and it was incredibly fun to finally see it all in person with my wife and kids. There is something unique about the Disney parks that has always energized me and fed my own creativity unlike any other theme park. I love thrill rides, but Disney is about so much more than just that.
I loved seeing the California version of The Voices of Liberty. I am so impressed by their musical abilities and wish that their repertoire wasn't limited to Americana - but were also able to tackle some Disney classics.
The current state of Indy really is a pale comparison to what it was when the ride first opened. I whole-heartedly agree with all the MiceChatters who have been calling for a major reburb or upgrade. It's too good let it continue as is.
I rode the Nemo version of the subs for the first time and have mixed feelings about the prospect of discontinuing the subs altogether. It's hard to thrill modern audiences with a this slow moving ride system - no matter what the storyline of the attraction. I love the idea of a submarine ride and the beauty of the lagoon against the Matterhorn - but if it was replaced by a great, original e-ticket (along with Autopia) ... I wouldn't complain too much.
This is also the first time I've ridden the rebuilt Space Mtn. It's smoother, darker, and the soundtrack made me want to watch the Incredibles again. It's a great ride - but Tomorrowland is really in need of a great new e-ticket (or 2) I would love for them to make the Innoventions buildings into a great revolving theater with a state of the art show that uses the lastest in projection, lighting, and sound technology. They could easily use the same technology for several different shows that were seasonal. But, imho, Innoventions is a waste of space.
BTW, we also experienced our first ever evacuation on Splash Mtn. It ws kind of fun - but the redesigned logs really do get you unpleasantly wet.
I have watched the makeover of California Adventure online with great interest. I think that allowing the public to watch the construction process really worked in Disney's favor and made the Disney faithful really feel invested in its success. Buena Vista St. has so much more of an impact than I had anticipated and totally transforms the feel of walking into DCA. I LOVE being able to get my favorite Starbucks drinks in the park - and am anxious to see the same care given to the Hollywood area. Carsland is stunning! I rode Racers both during day and night and loved it. Luigi's does need to reduce it's wait time - but I enjoyed it as well as Mater's. However, our only bad dining experience was at Flo's. The kitchen was hopelessly backed up and the wait for our food was ridiculous. Hopefully, they can refine their systems.
World of Color didn't disappoint! We saw it twice from different viewpoints and it was a totally different experience each time. The first time we didn't even realize how much of the projections and lasers we were missing. I hope they continue to refine this show and upgrade the technology. It's a winner!
Finally, (at least for now) I want to comment on the current prices at Disney. Wow! It's gotten so expensive - both for admission and for food services. On the other hand - the only thing that keeps it from being even more unbearable crowded is having a higher price point. Perhaps it's a good thing that Harry Potter is coming to Universal Hollywood. The only thing that is going to help keep crowds and prices at a reasonable level for families is more competition.
Thanks again to all of you who kept me up to date over the years on what's happening at the Resort. I love to see your pictures, read your reviews, and even argue with one another about things. I share your passion.
The most miserable expeience of our disney vacation was waiting in line for Midway Mania in the heat of the day. Ugh! Loved the ride - but that cue was miserable.
The Aladdin show is still great fun for anyone who loves theater - but the current cast is certainly a downgrade from what I remember. Also, I find it hard to believe they couldn't come up with a better alternative to the now defunct flying carpet. The show has lost a lot of it's "wow factor".
The safety regulations are really having negative impact on rides like Matterhorn and Alice.
