  • [Idea] Relocaiting Autopia

With all of the rumors of the future of the current location of autopia, a lot of people want the ride to retire but are lot of people a talking about relocating to the brand new Cars Land.

My idea is to close down Bugs Land and put the new autopia there with new electric cars and with the cars characters.

    Re: Relocaiting Autopia

That's a good idea too. Ideally I would have liked to see them integrate Autopia into the design of Carsland in the first place. To have it interweave with the other attractions in the same way that it interweaves with the Monorail and PeopleMover tracks now and can be seen from the railroad. And have the track such that it takes you on a tour of Carsland. I would have liked them to make the cars electric and styled as characters from the Cars films, and have the cars talk to you and say funny things at random or triggered by things you do. To add Autopia to Carsland now would be not as good, because it would be an add-on and would not be seamlessly integrated into the land as it would be if they had designed it into the land from the beginning of the design stage. Anything they do now would not be as aesthetically pleasing as if they had designed Carsland from day 1 with Autopia in mind as part of it.

Autopia doesn't really fit in with the whole Tomorrowland theme. I mean yea the cars look sorta futuristic, but that's sorta superficial. If they went "green" with the cars, as opposed to gas, they would fit it better since the future is renewable energy.

A self-driven ride for Cars Land with route 66 themes would be very fitting, but I would prefer to see Autopia stay in Tomorrowland. The great thing about Disneyland is that it is a theme park for all ages; the variety Autopia provides could not be replaced.

I think all Autopia needs is a futuristic story-driven theme(Giving Autopia an imaginative story, unrelated to movies), and new ride system(Can we go fast?), and utilize space efficiently (having multilevel roads, underground and above.)

Everyone keeps saying move it to DCA but what about the people who can only afford to go one park or only want to go to dl. I think having a car type ride in each park is a better way to keep it and as said on the other 20 threads about this just make it electric. I feel they sould tear it out build a dark ride underground and put it back but on top of the new ride

If that were the case then if they can only do one park they can only do one park. The fact is that at some point in the future, Autopia will be gone. It will be replaced by something else, whether thats a year from now or 10 years from now. Each park will always have rides unique to themselves, and if you only can go to one park you will miss the unique rides of the other one regardless.

I think moving Autopia to Cars Land makes sense thematically. It would be a perfect fit over there, and would be a perfect time to upgrade the vehicles.

I think moving it and rethemeing (is that a word?) it is a neat idea. Route 66 or maybe a 'trip across America' if possible, a la Storybook Canal but using the Cars cars? Manhattan skyline & Lady Liberty, Chicago, St Louis Arch, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, San Francisco all in miniature.

The only problem I have with replacing A Bug's Land with this is that it would be replacing 4 rides and a water play area with just one ride and not much else. Even though the rides in A Bug's Land may not be the greatest, at least they provide some variety.

Just build a bunch of bridges over the Jungle Cruise and make two rides out of that area, you'd have the Jungle Cruise and the Jungle Autopia. Frees up a bunch of space too

WDW Magic Kingdom, Paris Disneyland, Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland. All have an Autopia, they might be named differently but they are all Autopia and located in Tomorrowland. So why would they remove it from ours? It is an iconic attraction that was important to Walt himself. I can see them re-theming it and bringing in electric cars like in Hong Kong, but not taking it out completely.

Let's really go futuristic and make them nuclear powered like the Batmobile.

I'd love to see autopia in cars land. Imagine driving through the rocks of cadillac range and through the stalag-light caverns. OOOH and there could even be a little drag race portion where 2 cars line up and a little launch mechanism grabs the cars and shoots them down a straight. That would be a great finish for an autopia ride. It would be like RSR for kids who are a bit too scared.
In the quest for quality, I have no problem with the characters footing the bill.

People always suggest moving a ride. Have they EVER actually done this??? It's sounds like a pretty strange thing that people speak of like it's easy, or worth it. Autopia doesn't really fit TL's theme, as others have said, and it's personally just too close to the Racers to me. Also, one ride in place of 4 rides AND a show?

That's basically where Fantasyland Autopia used to be. but that didn't fit a theme either.

Autopia doesn't fit tomorrowland now, but it did in 1959 much like subs and mission to the moon/mars. But with some re-theming it can be once again. Even with the electric cars it wouldn't be tomorrows tech since we have them today, but it would be closer.

Maybe the name Tomorrowland has lost it's meaning. Maybe re-naming the land along with re-theming would work and help with the confussion. Maybe?

I thought about this too, and the only thing I could come up with was moving CoP from Disneyland to the Magic Kingdom. But moving a ride across the sidewalk seems weird. I say if they take Autopia out, leave it out altogether. I don't think DCA should become Disneyland's dumping grounds. Autopia takes up a LOT of space, and that's the issue we're having with it now, and DCA already doesn't have much space to give up, especially to a mediocre attraction like Autopia.

While there may be electric cars in existence today, they are not commonplace. Some people have them, but the bulk of the cars on the road today are gas-powered internal combustion engines. Of the electric cars out there, most of those are some type of hybrid gas/electric. A pure electric car that is suitable enough for consumer use to the point of completely replacing all gasoline powered automobiles is not yet in production. Certainly highways comprised of nothing but electric vehicles is far in the future. That is what an electric Autopia would be.

As far as the subs not fitting the theme, that may be true in their bastardized form. However in their proper form, the thought of exploring the ocean depths in a nuclear powered submarine is very futuristic. The military may have the ability to do that now, but to my knowledge they are not offering sightseeing tickets to the general public. Nor are there any privately owned versions of those out there that someone can just hop aboard for a trip under the polar ice cap. The original Submarine Voyage offered a glimpse into the future of tourism that is very much relevant today.

I would describe Rocket to the Moon/Mission to Mars the same way as the subs.
