  • Trip Report Disney Exhibit, Regan Library - PICS!

Edit: Sorry for title. It should be REAGAN, not Regan, that was someone else:

Ok, Just learning how to post pics so hope this works.

We live literally a few miles from Reagan Library so could not pass up chance to see the exhibit in person. Also, regardless of your political affiliation, its actually actually a very interesting museum from a fascinating time in America's history, the cold war, Russia, Regan's favorite place California, A replica of the Oval Office and a very charismatic president. Plus they have the real Air Force one with an amazing view. Also, they Disney display is quite nice. Surprised they didn't have more of the footage of him introducing the park on opening day! There is some good footage on youtube, Regan was one of the comentators for the media that day.

Note to photo nerds like myself. No flash is allowed in this exhibit, and I had no tri pod, so very low light. I had a fixed 20 mil lense 2.8 f-stop (digital adds 1.5 to that though) so very low light that I fixed in photoshop, kept shutter speed to 60 to avoid blur. Sorry for the grain but best I could do. If anyone else goes, probably should bring tripod, if secret service is cool with it.

Re: Disney Exhibit, Regan Library - PICS!

Did it again, realized its my fault for hitting back on forum. The pic files I have to hit back several times to get back to main menu. did it on here, lost another 20 min of work. Thats what the beers are for in the fridge. Ok. Let us continue our tour.

Oh to ScottG, not sure exactly why, but Regan did have a long relationship with Walt Disney, in fact Regan was a commentator on opening day, and I';m sure with the way the industry worked he had ties to Walk Disney, both in same city sort of. In fact I remember back in the 80s (when I was really young) one of Regan's speeches about defense spending said something to the effect of "We don't want a Disneyland Defense System with Donald Duck Funding, and Mickey Mouse Policy". Always seemed funny to me. Wonder if Roy took offense.

Ok, on to part 2. I might break it up to avoid my own errors.

The plaque said "Special Effects Model" But we were not sure if it was a model to model the CGI, as a reference or it was actually used to film (doubt it, CGI reference probably). Very cool to see up close though. I think about 1/10th scale or something.

A few more. Wish I got pic of the Disney patented multi plane Camera which is what set him apart in animation. Its right in the opening. Thats why his older films had such depth. It was literally multiple cells of backgrounds and created amazing depth never seen before... Anywas. Heres the last:

I just got sad when I saw those old Haunted Mansion records, and Viewmaster that I used to have.
It does get me excited about the exhibit. I'll have to check it out soon.

Yeah, the price on the View Master printed on the package was like $3.25.

                      ---------- Post added 07-15-2012 at 09:52 PM ----------

Oh, last thing, for the drinkers in the house. There is an actual Pub imported board for board from Ireland that sells beer at the Musem. (more of a snack bar that has beer and wine). It was the one Regan visited back in the 80s on trip. I was there early in the day so did not partake of anything, still on caffeine at that point of course but you can have an actual beer there in a real Irish pub imported from Ireland. board for board. Its below Air Force one in the large area with the huge windows for any Irish missing home. Really cool actually.

                      Cheers!

The car is not Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (which isn't a Disney film, by the way) but rather the car from The Absentminded Professor, supposedly powered by his invention of flying rubber, called Flubber.

The display table of paraphernalia belonged to Professor Emelius Browne from Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

The songs for Chitty, Chitty, ... were written by Disney musical legends, the Sherman brothers. So there is a bit of a connection. But you're right, this is the car from Absent Minded Professor.

                                Brian,

You're lucky to live that close to the museum - that was a horrid trek from OC, and I'm originally from Woodland Hills!
Since you didn't recognize the prop from Bedknobs & Broomsticks, I say you must watch it! Very cool film a bit ahead of it's time.
I agree - great place to visit regardless of your political affiliations.
Lastly, I feel like an idiot for not recognizing the piece of the Berlin wall. No wonder tourists were posing for pics with it! <OOPS>

Yeah, "mom's" reference must have been thinking it was Chitty.

Seeing the Flubber Car does make me think that it would be fun if Radiator Springs would occassionally host other Special Guest Star Cars from tv and movies. There are several that could be used, and or invited, from the Flubber car, Walt's private electric cars he used in Disneyland, Herbie aka the Love Bug, Benny the Cab, invite the original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, yeah, dreaming here, but even KITT could be invited for a visit. I saw there are real cars built that look like the ones in Wacky Races (if anyone remembers that older H/B toon.

You're lucky to live that close to the museum - that was a horrid trek from OC, and I'm originally from Woodland Hills!

Thank you for the pictures! I would love to see the exhibit. It looks amazing.

I still have my viewmaster and a bunch of different Disneyland Land reels still in their packaging! They were a great way to see the Park when we weren't going to be there for another year when I was young!

Sorry about the bad spelling in the title! I am such a snob when it comes to spelling too. I am unable to edit the title so Unless a moderator can fix it, I'll live with the shame.

Spectroman, now you know how we feel on our drive to DLR, although is not so bad on a weekend morning (less than an hour drive), or before 2pm on or after 7pm on a Weekday. Once we left on a Friday at like 3:30 and it took 3.5 hours. Horrible. There was an accident, and stalled car before the accident.
