  • [Idea] MY DCA phase 2

I know DCA has just finished its 5 year remodel but I feel DCA is about 60% done lets finish it. with out turning DCA back into wall land as I liked to call it.

    Paradise Pier

    1. put in a crush coaster where the MB was 150 million E ticket
    2. build a boardwalk around MFW a small one about 15 to 20 feet wide just enough to hide MFW ugly concrete bottom. 5 million
    3. enclose JJF like what they did with the one in Japan. 5 million

    Grizzly Peak
    1. add bears and other critters to GRR 12 million
    2. replace RCCT with Haunted mansion meets Mystic manor meets haunted wooded cabin with LMAUA ride system 150 million D ticket

    Buena Vista Street
    1. add a Oswald lucky rabbit dark ride where the old temporary walkway was. make the ride two story's tall to double the usable space make the front of the ride look like a 3 story office building 120 million D ticket

    Hollywood land
    1. enclose the Aladdin theater out side stairs and line que to make a grand lobby and redo the whole outside of the theater. 20 million
    2. new facade for Monsters INC 5 million
    3. expand Hollywood land past TOT and add 3 or 4 dark rides Fox in the Hound 60 million,Lady and the Tramp 60 million,101 Dalmatians 60 million,Bambi 60 million all C tickets

This way most construction happens in back stage areas or be hide tall trees in GP Total price 707 million

Some ideas are not to shabby like the Oswald dark ride but I don't like the idea of so many Disney movies being in such a close proximity (one land). You also have to consider size Crush I think could not fit in the old MB area, and why not re theme JJF to look like the of Coney Island Parachute drop (Living near the old thing makes me wish it was still there). Keep thinking some of these ideas I could see happen

        Re: MY DCA phase 2

Like you said, it is a bad idea. No offense but this is not really any good.

        Paradise Pier:
        1. What does an Australian sea turtle coaster have to do with the turn of the century boardwalk? Why would you even think to put that there, in a park about California.

        2. What is the point of this? Is it really necessary? Waste of money.

        3. Have you ever even seen the one in Japan. The one ride there is not enclosed, it is part of a whole land where all the rides are indoors. It would be impossible to do it in DCA, not to mention very ugly.

        Grizzly Peak:
        1. Nothing new, obvious, not your idea.

        2. Why do we need another ride that is like the Haunted Mansion? Can't we just go to Disneyland if we want that experience? Also if you are going to post ideas, make sure you fully describe what you mean, provide visuals, a little storyline. What you have written is very ambiguous and unclear for the reader. How am I supposed to know what you meant?

Buena Vista Street - The yellow is almost impossible to read BTW
        1. Terrible idea. First off, a dark ride would not fit in that space. Secondly it is not smart to put a ride right next to the entrance, it would become way to congested with park guests entering, leaving, and going on the rides. Ever notice how all the other parks do not have attractions near the entrance, they are meant to be on the inside. Also instead of just throwing out ideas, how about explaining what exactly this ride is like. You need to go into detail more.

        Hollywood Land:
        1. Nothing new, obvious, not your idea.

        2. Why are you keeping Monsters, Inc? What does it have to do with the golden age of Hollywood? Also, again like all your suggestions, you need to go into detail of what you mean by facade changes. What type of architectural facade is this ride getting? Explain!

        3. How much expansion room do you think there is? There is definitely not enough room for all that stuff. Again, explain what type of ride it is. Provide visuals. Tell us the scenes. Why would people want to ride those rides? What do they have to do with Hollywood again? And I know they will not be popular rides. Even though you have some affinity for these movies, the younger generation does not and would rather have more technologically advanced rides or rides based on today's favorites, not the ones from 50 years ago.

Sorry everything sounded harsh but I am only providing constructive criticism so you become better, ok? Next time be sure to think like an Imagineer rather than just blurting out random ideas that make no sense at all. Provide more detail and explanation so people understand what you are talking about. Read some books about the art of Imagineering and what it takes to design a theme park. Remember the story, that is what makes up Disney Parks after all. Also, where are you getting these prices? How do you know how much something will cost if you have only design 1% of it? Nice try for a novice but next time try to work harder and provide something that the Imagineers would design, not something that seems like it was designed by a child that knows nothing of Disney parks. Research before you post next time so you do not waste peoples time. Don't just say your ideas after 2 minutes of thinking about it. Good Arm Chair Imagineering takes time and effort. Take your time and fully develop an idea.

Easy now with the criticism, they're ideas that aren't fully conceptualized, but they're a start.

i like the Oswald Ride idea, but I agree that it's a bad location. Put it in Hollywood Land. That place needs refinement.

^^ Whoa, Whoa that sounded a little harsh. I don't want to start anything, but these are just ideas. No need to nitpick ever single thing wrong with his idea. Its his vision, what he visualizes as his perfect DCA. Realism is nice, but why not we just take ourselves away from the real world for once.

Listen, I really don't want to make this thread jimble-jamble. So let's just accept his ideas and move on from there. I mean this is his DCA...

Have you seen the Jumpin' Jellyfish in Japan? In person, it does look very nice with fully realized Jellyfish with tentacles. I would imagine they could do a lot with show lighting at night. Plus, Jellyfish in Tokyo does not have a height requirement.

I am sorry if anyone thought I was being a little harsh but it is necessary. How will this user learn to be a great Arm Chair Imagineer if he keeps on producing ideas like this. He needs to know that he can do much better next time and that this work was definitely not top notch. He needs to show some effort and creativity. Let everyone know how much time he spent on it, not just posting random thoughts that make no sense at all for DCA.

And to Grizzly, yes I have seen Jumpin' Jellyfish in Japan but it seems as if YOU have not seen it. In Japan, there are 4-5 rides all indoors. How do you suppose they enclose just the one ride in DCA without ruining the sightlines of Paradise Pier? Or are you saying that they should build a whole Mermaid Lagoon there (which has nothing to do with California). JJ in Japan does look very nice but it is impossible to recreate that scene indoors in DCA without creating a whole indoor land like TDS. Look at a picture of Mermaid Lagoon if you have not been there and you will see what I am talking about. The OP stated that he wants to enclose the ride like in Japan, not make it look like Japans but outdoors.

Of course I have been to DisneySea, many times actually, I mentioned that in person the Jellyfish look really detailed compared to DCA. I did not see that the OP wanted to enclose the ride. That wouldn't be practical, but the actual ride would still look much better than what is there now.

Yes I do have to agree with you that the one in Tokyo is much better looking and far more detailed. It would be nice to have gotten Tokyo's Jumpin' Jellyfish rather than the cheap version that was placed in DCA. However inclosing it would be near impossible not to mention ugly from the outside. I also cannot help but thinking it would be claustrophobic from the inside.

                      Re: MY DCA phase 2

I'm mainly against a Crush Coaster because Nemo is in the parks too much as is (in WOC, the Turtle Talk, DCA Parade, and its own ride in Disneyland)

I want to see the Manor come in but room is the main issue with that

I totally agree about making the Pier...more like a boardwalk...by having you walk in wood...I know it seems like a small detail...but its Disney there suppose to be all about making you REALLY feel like your somewhere

I've heard some user's ideas about a fun house being added to PP, and I just can't get behind that. I like the possibilty of DCA having its own Haunted Mansion-esque ride, but I don't know if a fun house is the answer. I understand that a fun house might work well on the pier, but I can also see it being really cheesy if done wrong. With Victorian era push, a fun house just seems like it would be tacky.

One area of the park I think a lot of people forget about is the Condor Flats area. The weird thing about that area is that it's so small, that it is literally designed around one ride, Soarin, so you can't really add any attractions, and you can't modify it in anyway without changing or removing Soarin, which would be pretty stupid, because it is a good ride. I just wonder what Disney is going to do with that area, whether that be nothing, or taking out Soarin and redesigning it, or whatever. I think it'd be cool if they expanded the Grizzly Peaks area, because that land does have potential, but like I said, Soarin is still extremely popular; but I think realistically, the next thing they will take a look at in DCA will be Hollywoodland, because it truly is lacking.

IMO, the attractions you've chosen to go in Hollywood Land clash with the theme of the land. I like the idea of Oswald being present on Buena Vista, but I think it would be better if it was maybe a small theater that showcased old animation clips of him from the Walt Disney Studios, like the cinema on Main Street.

I am one of those users lol but I really do think a fun house type of ride could work if done right. It just depends on ones vision on how one should look and be executed in a victorian era boardwalk.

                                Re: MY DCA phase 2

I'll be the black sheep and comment on the ideas.

Hmm...not too sure about Crush's Coaster being added in that particular spot. Crush's Coaster by all means is a well-themed coaster, but placing it there isn't necessarily the best bit of property, number one, size constrictions, number two, theming. If they do end up taking out the Subs in the future, maybe we'll see this coaster coming to reality somewhere in the resort. I like your thinking of including it though.

If only that boardwalk could be a reality...Paradise Pier has definitely taken a turn for the better since the remodel began, but nonetheless it still needs help. Putting a boardwalk around the Fun Wheel for a new queue alone would be fantastic. It's a real shame they can't just take out all of the Paradise Pier concrete on the main drag (where most of the rides are with the exception of Ariel and the WOC viewing area) and replace it all with wood. It's not going to happen though. And repainting it to look like wood would look awful haha.

As usual, I'm all for the idea of adding animatronics to GRR. It's a fun ride, but it needs more to look at...when I rode it for the first time in February of 2001 I was expecting to see a bear or something but alas...there weren't any bears to be found. Instead of putting in another mansion-type attraction, why not bring back a California-themed version of the Country Bears? Just a thought.

I forget who said it, but I think that Oswald would work better if he had old cartoons playing in a cinema on Buena Vista Street rather than his own ride. If not this, at least give him a meet-n-greet or something in addition to some other old-time characters seldom seen by the eyes of civilized man. Hollywood Land on the other hand...oh, boy, it needs help. I think that Monsters should just be replaced all-together in addition to the enclosure of the Hyperion and an architectural remodel for everything else with the exception of TOT. Rather than putting a bunch of kind of random dark rides in the expansion space, why not takeover that land and ALL of Bug's Land and turn it into a new Gold Rush mini-land with a California-themed Western River Expedition...or something like that. It's up to you. As others have said, this is your perfect vision of DCA.

Your ideas are good. You just need to work on them and flesh them out a little bit more.

To be honest I think Disney's California Adventure is fine right now! I don't get why cars land is there. It's an okay movie but yeah...

ANYWAY I think that covering up JJF is silly because it would be an eyesore (and an imagineering failure) if you walk into a highly detailed theme park and stumble upon a shed with jellyfish inside.

I second having animatronics in the grizzly river run because i was expecting a bear yelling and growling at us in the cave but there were none. there could also have been salmon trying to swim against the tide like from the railway thru nature's wonderland.

I think they should change the ride layout of tower of terror for a random drop selection!
They should replace monsters inc. to something more fun, i can't think of one so someone else help!
