After absorbing all of the tragic news coverage of the Aurora, Colorado shootings, I felt a hunger to go to Disneyland. I live in Las Vegas so it would be a four-hour drive, and I really couldn't get away yesterday. But I was surprised at how strong that urge was, as if this was a safe refuge from the insanity of the real world. Had I made the trip, I think I would have headed right for the Mark Twain, and spent the next hour or two cruising the rivers of America.

Re: Anyone feel drawn to Disneyland after a tragedy?
I've definitely felt at war inside my mind over the last day or so. I've been so excited about leaving for our trip tomorrow, but it's hard to reconcile those feelings with reading some of the reports about this tragedy and just breaking down in sadness. Feels very much like getting pulled in two directions.I read one eye witness report this morning and just broke down crying, it hit me so hard.

Certainly, the loved ones of the victims are in a real bad place right now, and I hope they get the support they need as I don't think this is something that you ever truly get over. My heart goes to them.

I live in Aurora, Colorado, just a couple of miles from the shooting. It's hard now, but I feel God giving me strength. All this does make me look forward to my California trip in October, though.Mark

Have good faith my friends, justice has been done and the perpetrator will be put away for a long time maybe life. Consider this one more threat that can't hurt people anymore. As Bob (ex mouseketeer) Hope said on WDW's opening "All is not lost entertainment is on the way". May those lost souls forever find happiness in that promised land.

Re: Anyone feel drawn to Disneyland after a tragedy?
In a time of fear and sorrow, go to a place full of happy memories? A place full of childhood innocence? A place where it is easy to believe things like that can never happen (even if just for a day)? A place, like over the rainbow, "where troubles melt like lemon drops"? I'll take Disneyland to restore my optimism and faith in people any day!
What happened in Aurora was horrific and beyond understanding. My prayers are with the victims families and the citizens of Aurora. Peace to you all."Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain."

Re: Anyone feel drawn to Disneyland after a tragedy?
I have mixed feelings on this issue. As much as I miss Disneyland, I actually didn't want to go anywhere after hearing of this tragic event. Yes, Disneyland takes away all the real-life problems for a short time while in the park. It really is like a second home for me. My problems melt away, and I can relax for a while.
However, my fiance and I have gone to a lot of theme parks in Southern California. We live about an hour away from Disneyland, and a half hour away from Six Flags Magic Mountain and Universal Studios. Despite having annual passes to Universal this year, I actually feel safer at Six Flags. Disneyland and Universal just somewhat look in your bag and then you're off into the park. Six Flags makes you go through that, plus a metal detector (due to some horrible gang issues in the last few years). Very few people take anything into Six Flags because even small purses and fanny packs don't fit on the rides. I know I might seem crazy, but after hearing of the horrific events, I wanted to go somewhere where security was tight. For me, that's Six Flags Magic Mountain.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all involved in this horrific event."Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world." -Walt Disney

I once needed a Disneyland trip when long time Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan retired... But in all honesty if I can come up with a reason to go, then I will use it.
