  • [Question] What "facts" do your friends and family get mixed up regarding DL/DLR?

This is a question that comes and goes on MC for years now. I haven't seen a recent thread for quite some time. With all the new changes at the resort, and all the new ppl who were once lurkers and who are now MCers (like myself), I think it is time for another thread. Another reason I am posting the question below is that it tends to unify MCers, and with so many heated debates, arguements, and down-right negitivity this summer, I think we could use a bit of unification!

    So I ask...
What "facts" do your friends and family get mixed up regarding DL/DLR?

For me, this is my number 1:
I always hear that WDW was Walt's first project. As a California native, I find this doubley frusterating... Altho, I do take it as an oppertunity to educate my friends and co-workers. I do have one friend who seems to not allow me to prove it to him ("wikipedia is wrong!")... LOL. I am not sure why there are some ppl who just can't accept that WDW was second.

What are yours? I know there are many out there!!!

Most people think all Disney parks are "Disneyland" so when I say I am going they ask "which one?" ... ugh

And the worst one of all "Did you know Walt Disney was a Nazi?" jesus ....

"I KNOW they serve beer and wine at the Blue Bayou! I've ordered it before!"
"could you possibly be thinking of club 33?"
        "what's that?"

Well, until recently, this was true.

As for the subject, it isn't just family or friends who get their facts wrong. I've probably seen more incorrect "facts" stated by "fans" than just about anyone else.

I thought they were always allowed to have them as long as it was neatly kept (except in the old days when they were really strict) ?

The "old days" wasn't that long ago--only a few years.
From 1955 through 2000, ALL facial hair was banned; in 2000, mustaches were allowed, and it was only January of this year that beards were OK'd.

If inaccurate Disneyland lore comes up in conversation, I might try to contribute what I know, but I don't really let it bother me. I'm sure I'm wrong about a lot of things. I hate coming off as a know-it-all so I usually keep it quiet.

I hear all sorts of things about Disneyland, my favorites being the Magic Kingdom in Florida was built first and the other being if Walt Disney were alive today, he'd tear down Disneyland. It's all ignorance so I just tend to ignore them.

"the Blue Bayou scene was inspired by Tia Dalma's scene in POTC 2." I told him right after that it was the other way around.

"Disneyland has a whole underground tunnel system!"
"Walt Disney lived in Sleeping Beauty Castle."
"Disneyland isnt open 365 days a year"

All these irritate me when friends and family claim it

There is a book called "Liar's Guide to Disneyland" which is hilarious and filled with completely fake facts and misconceptions that people have about Disneyland. I was laughing the whole time I was reading it.

However, now I'll find myself saying "I read in a book..." and spouting off some fact just to realize ten minutes later I read it in the Liar's Guide and have to correct myself to whomever I was talking to!

"I'm going to LA to go to Disneyland."

For the Twilight Zone Library Room I hear people call it an elevator all the time.

To Disney's credit, the first time I brought along a friend as a first-timer he thought the Indi animatronics were real guys and wouldn't believe a word I said about them.

At my most recent job, my boss claimed to share my Disney enthusiasm and proceeded to ask me, "Have you ever been to that Club? The one next to Pirates? Club 54?"

                                Umm....

When I tell people I worked at Disneyland for a summer, they always ask about "all those secret tunnels" LOL

There used to be a day where "What's that?" in response to Club 33 was the rule and not the exception.
