  • [Question] Ride Break Downs: Do You Remain Calm Or Do You Loose iT?

My family rode Big Thunder Mountain Railroad one time when it broke down inside a dark tunnel. To add to the drama, it appeared and felt like we were ointed almost straight up at the tunnel opening. i thought it was a cool opportunity to get a great look at the details of how the tunnels look insede. One of the members o y family was bored still, another was nervous and edgy, while a third was screaming in pure terror.

Everybody in our train played it safe and remained safely secured in our seats, even though it seemed like forever before help showed up. Mangement ended up giving us each special passes that permited us to walk straight on rides the rest of the day. Boy, did we ever have the time of our lives.

Now if we had broken down upside down in the Screamin' loop at DCA, it would have been ugly. I would have screamed my lungs out, and it wouldn't be very pretty beneath me either. In fact, I'm probably going to give my selve a nightmare onight, just thinking about it.

Re: Ride Break Downs: Do You Remain Calm Or Do You Loose iT?

Thus far, I've always been mildly amused. When we were stuck on Splash Mountain once, it got to the point where there were about seven logs and we were all waving at each other and taking photos. In Buzz Lightyear I LIKE being stopped.

On a roller coaster, I don't know if I'd be so amused. Ditto if it were a situation where one was stuck for hours. Getting stuck in Buzz Lightyear for 15 minutes is a chance to get more points. Getting stuck for 90 would be horrifying.

I actually won't ride Pirates anymore because I am afraid of getting stuck--I'm pretty severely asthmatic, the smoke in there has bothered me before. If I were stuck in one of the smoky/foggy rooms for a while it would probably mean a trip to the hospital for me.

The only stoppage that I've heard of that would really make me lose it was the old Skyway, when people were stuck up there for hours. Everything else is managable.

Well, let's hope you don't get stuck in thar with all dim scallywags and smoke. You've got me hoping that the ride quits on Buzz. just imagine all the extra points one could rack up...as long as my gun doesn't overheat.

          Thank you.

The only time I've ever been able to get a million points has been when Buzz has stopped. The screen maxes out at 999,999.

I think getting stopped on rides is kind of awesome. Get to look around, especially if they turn on the lights.

i remember the skyway well! I used to kiss the ground when we would disembark at the station. Traveling thry the Matterhorn was comforting. But hanging high abovethe park was altogether a different animal. i felt like the thing could come loose and slam into the ground below at any time. To get stuck would have left me petrified, sick, and ready to hurl.....I loved the Skyway. Bring it back!!!

If I still went on it I would not be able to handle being stuck on mickeys death errr fun wheel, but I will never step foot on that ride again....

Other then that I could handle being stuck on the rest although I can't say getting stuck upside down would be fun, but it would be doable if it happened.

Good point. the backstage evacuation tours can be more fun than the rides.

                        People mover accident

Riding People Mover some time ago when it went around a corner too fast and I noticed the brakes on the track didn't engage so our vehicle plowed into the vehicle in front of us. Since I noticed the mechanics was not working I had a chance to tell my friends to "hold on". This all took place on a bridge in Tomorrowland. We all kept cool and exited by way of walkways and stairs.

As far as I know, CS has never had a bad enough wheel-jam that it would get stuck in the inversion.

However, I have seen a few vids online that show it valley'ing just before the loop. I suppose it happens enough that there is a crane tow parked near the loop. I assume this valley'ing happens b/c it was designed w/ a trim break just before the loop. Sometimes (my guess) is that trim malfunctions and breaks the train too much, and the train cannot make the inversion (sometimes it will make the inversion, but not the hill upwards just after this loop and the valley'ing happens on the exit side of the inversion).

IMO, this is a poor spot for a trim break, and the trimmer should have been placed higher up the track.

If I was stuck at the top of this loop, I would demand Disney give me one pass to all parks for a lifetime! :P

I don't think its a physical possibility for Screamin' to get stuck at the top of the loop because of gravity and inertia. (Could be wrong and if I am someone will correct me ) The weight of the cars and inertia are what pushes the trains through the loop. Thats why they valley out if something goes wrong rather that getting stuck at the top of the loop. If for some reason they don't have enough force to push them completely through the loop, gravity and the weight of the train pull it back down to a state of equilibrium at the bottom of the loop. The only way it could get stuck at the top of the loop would be if all the wheels on the train were to suddenly and completely freeze up and gripe the railing.

I've gotten stuck on small world for about 20 minutes once, and it's not as bad as people think it is. Of those choices, I guess CA Screamin would be the worst but I think it's nearly impossible to get stuck on the loop. Actually, the most anxious I've ever been stuck on the ride was on the monorail for about an hour in the trees by Autopia.

Well, it's reassurng to ome degree that the trip brake should prevent the loop leaving you hanging like a freakin' bat.

After your havinng described the safeguards to the coaster in such a analytical and calm demeaner, I love the final note that you ended on, final sentence, JMazz..."If I was stuck at the top of this loop, I would demand Disney give me one pass to all parks for a lifetime!" :lmao:

I LOVE it when I'm on a ride when it 101s! You get to see it as you never usually do, not to mention you might get to walk through the ride to get out (depending on the ride, of course). I think it's wicked awesome!! )
