  • [Question] A question for a Plaid: when did the Guest Relations pin first appear?

Any current or past Plaid happen to know when the above pin first came into use at Disneyland? From best I can determine it first was used when DCA opened in 2001. Or was it used in City Hall before that time, for Cast there who were not yet passsed into the Tour Guide/Host(ess) brigade?

Surely someone knows this. Or is it something that nobody besides me cares about? If so, truly a sad day.

I have one that is almost identical that says Boat Pilot, but Tinker Bell is lower on the pin. I was told mine is a knock-off. Sigh.

        Yours looks like this:

Notice the rather lethal-looking 'can-opener' spike on the bottom of the pin. That's the dead giveaway that a pin is fake. None of the three generations of official, real pins have that. And some fake pins come with titles never used at Disneyland, like Boat Pilot, Tram Driver, Vehicle Maintenance, etc.

I was a Tour Guide/VIP Host from 1999 - 2004. This pin was put into service in '01. I believe there were two reasons for this pin; first was WDWs pin said Guest Relations on their pin and that's the time when we in City Hall were becoming more like Florida (actually there was a time when DL was talking about using the WDW "Disney D" design at GR. They started the change when the buttons on our costumes were changed from the Sleeping Beauty Castle and old world Disneyland script to the "Disney D" and the second reason was because at that time new CMs we're given a choice of not learning the spiel and not becoming a Tour Guide. If my memory serves, this pin was going to be a Costume piece and handed out to every new hire so we all looked uniform. I remember our Management going around asking for our Guide and Host pins in exchange for the GR pin. I don't remember this style hanging around too long, maybe 6-8 months, then we went back to being Guides/Hosts/Hostess. Hope this helps.

Thank you for that info! Makes my obsession with Disney parkaeology all the more easier.
