Okay, so just to make the record clear, I've recorded SplM "nearly full, if not full, from behind my kids to get them in the shot.

But now-a-days, with all the high quality video available to view, ya just gotta wonder, is it just "because I can" mentality.

Again, I totally get the capture your kids, family, heck even yourself in the video, but for the front seat POV video shoot...what's the point? Just so you can have a copy for yourself?

I think once people invest in a camera, and they have all that memory space, they feel like they just need to record everything and anything.

I see people recording some pretty strange stuff, but, hey, who am I to say

people usually do that to post on youtube for people who never get to visit the parks, and some do actually get a lot of views. I saw a Splash Mountain pov get over 1 million views.

I enjoy the POVs of all the Disneyland ride on the web. It lets me relive the magic

If you're local or an APer who goes frequently, I can see the point of taping it if you want to, but honestly it makes me sad when I see families who are there on a once a year or once in a lifetime trip and one parent spends the entire day behind the screen. So many people just don't live in the moment. Maybe they don't know that ride videos already exist on Youtube, but experiencing a ride or a day with your family is so different when you're constantly filming or photographing everything. So what if you can watch the whole day later, if you didn't actually spend the day experiencing it? Short videos and pictures, sure, of course, but there's something to be said for just making memories in your head. That's what Disneyland is all about--making memories, not making movies. I think with the advent of cheap digital media, people just aren't present anymore, and that's a real shame.

This is a good point. We make it down there about twice a year for a week's stay. I would load up with a digital camera and a video camera and take pictures all the time to the point where it became more work than fun. With pictures and videos, there should be a purpose in mind - an end product you plan to do with them. If your just trying to capture scenes, put the camera down, there's millions of images available online. I've got to the point where I always take my camera but make sure there is a reason behind a shot or video clip (pretend your still using film). Then I may take one day each trip and just go nuts and shoot pictures and videos of everything in sight.

That being said. On a Saturday morning with an extra 30 minutes to an hour to spare and nothing better to do, I do like to watch POV videos from time to time. Some of the newer ones in high definition are outstanding.

when myson turned 18 I bought him a bunch of dvds of POV of rides at all the Disney parks plus walk thrus of the parks as well. I love watching them and seeing the different things at the different Disney parks. One of my favorites is the Cinderella Coranation at WDW and the fireworks. If you can't get to the parks that often watching the videos helps curb the Disneyfever.

As long as there are people out there who enjoy doing it, I'm more than happy to benefit from it! I love watching other people's ridethroughs when I can't go myself.

Me, too!! There was a front seat POV vid on youtube for Cal. Screamin' that was probably one of the best I've seen. Sooooo smooth!! That cam must have had a major motion control on it!!

We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. I think it is a great thing to do (and sometimes selfless as you have to focus on the camera and not enjoy the ride as much), because some people cannot come to Disneyland ever, or at least for a long time, and it is good for them because they can ride vicariously through the video

It is also good for people like me who are frequent visitors, but sometimes I will have a question like

oh what was the color of the rabbit's shirt on Splash Mountain?
What does the music sound like again on Snow White's Scary Adventures?
I feel like watching Fantasmic for the gazillionth time so I can sit by my laptop and cry happy tears. <-that one happens a lot

anyway, I enjoy the POV videos and I encourage people to keep making them

Im with alot of people on here. I watch them just to get my Disney fix when i cant be there. I also never plan on going to any Disney resorts overseas, so i like to see whats over there thats differant than the U.S.A. parks. Besides, taping is some peoples hobby.

you can easily turn down the brightness on your camera screen, atleast that's what I do. And if your talking about external lighting, many people who do POVs use nightvision and and some type of light not visible to the naked eye. POVs can be done without ruining the magic.

I agree. I guess working in video and editing I know not to shoot what I don't need to. When we took my wife's parents to Disneyland who live outside the U.S. I taped them watching various shows, on different rides, and I combined the video I shot with stuff already on YouTube. I didn't waste time shooting generic park b-roll that I knew already existed. It allowed me to enjoy being there with them too, without shooting all the time.

I used to do videoing on some Disney World trips when I was younger, but it became apparent that there were far more talented people recording the parks to tide me over between trips. Also, hated the sound of my own voice recorded in some of that stuff. Now I just go crazy with taking still shots because I see Flickr groups as scoreboards for these sort of things.

This. Before I got my AP I used to love watching some of the DLR videos that are posted. And I've loved watching some of the videos from other Disney parks to see the differences.

On the other hand, we've talked about how annoying and distracting those cameras can be in the dark rides, so I wish when people did this they would find a way to shield their camera screens. Also, on the roller coasters, I always hate sitting behind someone doing this. All I can think is that if that camera or iPad flies out of their hands, it's going to hit me at high speed.

As to filming other stuff at the park, why not? It's their vacation or trip to capture as they want.
