  • [Fun] What weren't you tall enough for? (that you wanted to be)

We all remember that feeling (or most of us) of being a little one in Disneyland and not being able to ride some of the really good attractions, while your family runs off to the ride and you're stuck on a bench waiting it out with a churro

For me, it's gotta be Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom because that was (not sure if it still is ) the highest height requirement in DL (there was no DCA).

Sad thing was, my cousins and relatives were all tall enough but I was short for my age and I believe I didn't make it on until my trip when I was 9...But when I did it was incredible and I felt like such a "big kid" to be able to ride it.

So, what was the ride you looked forward to the most for when you were tall enough to ride?

    Stories are good

My first trip was when I was three. I was too short and young for everything, so my mom said she and I rode King Arthur's Carousel for hours.

I have fond memories of that ride. It wasn't until later that I discovered the significance of it, with a carousel being the inspiration for Disneyland itself. I'm glad that it was my first memory of Disneyland. <3

I actually never had a problem getting on rides as a child. I'm a pretty tall girl.

It was so long ago that I was that small, I think the only thing I couldn't go on was the Matterhorn! The other E tickets weren't there yet. I did get to go on HM when it was brand new, and got a t shirt which I still have.

Indiana Jones was my ride, I went and was just under the bar when I was 6 or 7 so we bought a pair of cowboy boots in Frontierland and I was tall enough. Also my brother had told me that it was a jungle ride through the forest where you saw animals like on the jungle cruise, he failed to mention the fact that there is lava, snakes, and skeletons jumping out at you.

Indiana Jones. I hated the fact that when I was a kid my parents had to take turns watching me as one of them got to go on that ride.

By the time I got enough courage to go on any of the E-Tickets at DL I was already tall enough for all of them. Though I remember going to Magic Mountain for the first time and being bummed because I couldn't go on half the rides there...

I didn't really start riding the fast rides until around eighth grade so I was plenty tall enough by then. I've been the same height ever since...but there was one ride that I measured myself for EVERYDAY for about a year. When I found out we were going to Walt Disney World in 1999, the very first thing I wanted to ride was DINOSAUR (then Countdown to Extinction). I had seen it on the Animal Kingdom Sing Along Songs tape multiple times and was intrigued by it to the max. We'd have a ritual every morning of me going out to the garage at our old condo and measuring myself on the wall. Our Animal Kingdom park map (which had been mailed to us by the friends we were meeting in Florida) had the height requirement labeled next to the Countdown to Extinction description and I was thrilled. I was SO CLOSE to meeting the height requirement and by the time our trip came around, I was tall enough...and we didn't go to Animal Kingdom...just Epcot and MGM. Sigh...jump ahead to 2002 and we finally went to Animal Kingdom. I was much taller than the height requirement at that point and all of my wildest dreams about riding it were about to come true. Awesome sauce. My reaction?

                    NOT WORTH THE HEIGHT REQUIREMENT.

I believe that when I was young, there was not a height requirement. There were no Matterhorns or Indys or Star Tours. Just sat on Mommy' lap.
I am old. But still love Disneyland.

I was a TINY kid. Likely seriously, I didn't hit 100 pounds until I got to college (oh how I long for those days now!). So I clearly remember finally being tall enough for Space Mountain, which was the newest E ticket at the time. I think for short kids, it's a HUGE deal to finally reach those height milestones, than it is for bigger kids. My DS at 3.5 years old is as tall as I was when I started Kindergarten, so he has no idea, and will have zero appreciation for finally reaching the height of a coveted DLR ride.

As a kid, I was too short to ride splash mountain, so my family went on, leaving me with my mom. We waited forever since they went on the standby line that I eventually feel asleep. When I woke up, my mom was still with me but 2 hours passed. I asked her what was taking them so long. My mom simply told me "they saw you asleep so they decided to go back on."

No words that I knew back then was able to express what ran through my head the moment she said that

Same thing for me. Although the Matterhorn was around then. But by the time I got the nerve to ride it I was already tall enough!

Me too. I was about 7 or 8, though, and had no idea there was a height requirement.

My biggest height-related disappointment was not at Disneyland and it wasn't being too short. On our first trip to Magic Mountain in 1975 I went in their big bounce tank shaped like one of their troll mascots (Big Bloop Troll Bounce) but on our return in 1976 I was too tall to ride and very disappointed. Oh well, I was really there to ride the Revolution anyway (its opening year).

When it comes to height requirements I have an "opposite" story. Basically, as a kid, I could never get anybody to ride the Autopia with me. My parents and siblings had a "If you want me to drive you in a car, we can do that at home, without a metal bar in the middle of the road" mentality. I was under the single rider height requirement, so I went many years without riding it. When we finally returned to Disneyland, and I was tall enough to ride the Autopia as a single rider, I had gone through about two feet of growth spurts. Long story short, I couldn't sit in the car without my knees sticking out.
