The only place in DL I have had a problem in the sun was the handicap line for Big Thunder. It wasn't even summer but was already pretty warm back there. Umbrellas would be welcome, but would detract from the scenery.

I am going to bring a small, personal umbrella with me on every trip now. It will fit in the back of hubby's mobility scooter and will really help!

The past few days have been very humid and muggy. Even at night, I was sweating. There's little they can do to prevent that, but at least a bit of shading during the day when it's hot would be welcome. More fans could also be installed to blow around more air. That in itself would make the queues much more comfortable on such days and nights.
They did this with Star Tours. I don't see why they can't do it with the Racers as well.

I remember when I used to visit Six Flags in the Summer and always wanting the misters to spray my way. 85% it seemed that they didn't work. Every time we would approach the misters I'd think, "Yes! Finally get to cool down a little." Oh and then all of a sudden any slight gust of wind causes the mist to blow away from you, over your head, or into the direction of the plants. They hardly ever did their job! lol. Misters are such a tease. I say no to misters.

Agreed, Shade should have been installed by now for those poor standby wait people for RsR.

I hate misters. Its like being at Six Flags.

Yeah it was pretty overpoweringly hot this weekend for me also. At 9 in the morning I was already riding splash mountain, went on a few times but didn't really get me wet so by 1pm after riding RSR it was Grizzly time. Went on that twice and cooled down immensely. Of course there was still someone in my boat with a poncho on that was complaining about being cold when the water splashed them. It's always tempting to suggest they not get on a water ride if they don't like water

While more shade would definitely be welcome, a long wait on a hot day is ultimately still going to be a long wait on a hot day, no matter how you spruce it up. The only real way to truly cool it off is to enclose the entire queue in an air-conditioned building, which is a design choice that brings its own set of challenges.

Personally, this is one issue where I prefer to follow the old adage about what to do if you (quite literally) can't stand the heat. I just dont visit the parks as a guest when it's this hot, and not just because I'm already spending 40+ hours a week working there in the heat.

If you can think back to a first visit and aren't a youngin you might realize that now things are much more shaded. The trees have been growing and filling in. This is true in DCA as well but DCA has many more trees than DCA v1.0 to boot. With patience DCA will get cooler like DL has.

    They need these:

    Air fans:

    Misters:

    Canopies:

And most importantly - FREE ICE COLD LEMONADE FOR EVERYBODY!

I thought they did a fabulous job with shade at BVS and parts of CL, particularly bringing in fully-grown trees. So clearly they thought that art out. I don't get why the wouldn't anticipate the need for shade in the outdoor switchbacks of RSR. Sometimes I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of theming for comfort. I agree that misters would be a waste of water though.

Disneyland has plenty of shade. CA Adventure on the other hand, while it has gotten better with the remodel, is still lacking in shade structures.

As for the Racers, I've only ridden the ride with a fastpass. For the few minutes that I was in the sun, it was not too unbearable. I won't wait 2 hours for this or any ride, it is just not worth it. If I were to do that, I could see the issue with the sunshine.

The Radiator Springs Racers queue does NEED shade desperately same with the single rider line. Something anything to keep out the blazing hot sun while waiting. I'm sorry but when I just came back from Six Flags Over Texas where it was over 100 degrees plus humidity that park has shade, netting, roofing and fans in the stations if not the queue lines. A few rides actually are indoors and have air conditioning. So Disney should/needs to learn from another park.

anyone here remember the "good ol' days" when we all lined up in the parking lot under the monorail track shadow waiting for the shuttles?

Soarin doesn't have misters in the queue line. It's all covered by some type of shading structure. No attraction at the resort has misters. There is the rocket outside of Soarin though that does occaisonally have a mist going.

That said, I say no. Misters are a total waste a water. They give off a more cheap theme park environment which DCA has sought to move away from. They are also uncomfortable. Sure they cool you off at first but then it just gets annoying especially if you were glasses or sunglasses. Also, considering how attached people are now to their phones while in queues, ones iPhone or what not is going to get pretty wet and ones going to have to constantly wipe it off.

Shade would make such a difference. If not misters, fans would at least get some air moving. It's way too hot for people to wait outside in the sun for hours.

Ok, I know for sure 'soarin over cal' does use misters on the outdoor queue. But I think that's the only attraction queue that it's instilled on. I guess they stopped that after DCA 1.0
