News Indiana Jones refurbishment for Fall; Thunder slated to begin in Jan.

According to an article on Mouse Planet today written by David Koeing, Indiana Jones is slated for a rare, multi-month refurb beginning Sept. 4th and reopening Dec. 7th. This is confirmed on DL's website on the Indy page.

Indiana Jones Adventure Closed for Refurbishment

From September 4, 2012 through December 7, 2012, the exciting Indiana Jones Adventure attraction will receive refurbishment attention. Come back at the end of 2012 for a thrilling journey through the legendary Temple of the Forbidden Eye.

It is not yet on the refurbishment calendar but is stated on the official page. According to MP, the ride will mostly be getting theme appropriate fall-protection enhancements that will be there before OSHA comes in and causes an immediate closure ie. Alice. This article also mentions that Big Thunder, which Al originally said would go down in September and has yet to appear on refurb calendar, is actually going to be going under for it's top to bottom refurb in January. Perhaps it was pushed back because of Indy, who knows... Good news! I figured thunder mountain would wait for indy it would be hard to have both of those rides down.

We are coming in October also and are glad Big Thunder will be open. It was closed in WDW when we were there in Jan and that just wouldn't be fair! lol

Glad to hear Indy is getting updated. Even though I will miss it is Oct, I will look forward to the fixes.

Please..please don't make Indy look worst...I really hope what ever they HAVE to add does not look at of place like on Alice (I know they have more times but still a worry for me)

And..YES for Big Thunder I love that ride...and really was hoping to get to go on it for a while longer since I don't know If I'll be getting my renewed in May

A thread a couple months ago on the Indy refurb said that the rat projection is going to be fixed/upgraded in addition to the bridge widening. I kind of remember something about the single rider line being reworked as well.

Great to know that I'll probably be able to ride the original Thunder Mountain one more time in October before they redo it.

It seems that Disney used to do a better job of announcing such closures in advance.

I'll be there in September, and this annoucement would not have made a difference to my plans regardless, but what about other people?

If I was planning a once-in-a-lifetime trip, I might plan around the closure of such a significant attraction. Unless it's an emergency closure, it seems like they could let us know sooner.

In any case, this attraction apparently needs some significant attraction, and hopefully this refurb will address those issues, and not just install fancy safety features which, while necesscary, will not have an impact on day-to-day the guest experience.

yes yes YES!!! Words cannot describe how happy I am!! This is one mine and my fiance's favorite rides and we planned our honeymoon trip pretty much around this rumored refurb. We are going to be there December 9th-16th!!! SOOO HAPPY we will get to ride it!!

I can also verify this information as being correct, spoke to a higher up cast member on Indanna Jones, I mentioned to them how The Giant ball at the final drop, at end of the ride has not been functioning correctly. The ball normally comes down further and its been getting stuck 5 feet early. (sucks to, as its the most exciting part) She assured it would be fixed as there going to be going down for refurb soon, to fix all of the issues currently prone to the ride. I asked about how long until the refurb and she said Sept. 4th.


I live on Harbor blvd just 2 blocks form Disney and visit it nearly everyday, will be dissapointed that the ride will be closed for all of fall but its all for the better.

the reason for the delay in announcing is that parts need to be sourced and lead times verified. With much of the fall protection equipment coming from Germany we need to verify lead times and freight times with precision or have the items on site or in warehouses. Alice was the worst of the fall protection stuff, and will be getting fixed soon. Other attractions have been getting much more show appropriate fall protection installations.

Fall protection doesn't irritate me or anything...but it's a bit ridiculous that rules just can't be obeyed. It's only a matter of time before they put handrails around the outdoor portion of Splash Mountain. Just out of curiosity, has fall protection been added at any of Southern California's theme parks? Or is it only for Orange County?

Anyways, it's great to hear about this refurbishment! Hopefully the ice roof effect gets up and running again. Don't remember it, but hey.

According to the latest schedule info posted today, IAJ is still up through Sept 25.
Where is the IAJ specific area on DL's web site that says it will be down?

This will really stink if true. We would have changed our plans knowing both the HM and IAJ were down.

EDIT, found it - very disappointed in Disney for not having this on the daily schedule.

Darn Right! I am "other people". We are coming to DL on 09.10 for five days, flights & hotel booked, tickets purchased.

IJA still is not listed as closed for refurb on their calendar! Why not Disney? We accepted that HM and SM are both closed for holiday overlays, but now IJA...

Only at Disneyland could we miss Indiana Jones, Alice, Casey Jr, Space and Haunted Mansion in early September and still be excited. Can't miss that many ride in Magic Kingdom. :|
