  • [Question] California Screamin constant speed?

So was arguing with someone saying Screamin was the fastest coaster at the DLR....and he said no only the launch is that fast....but my guess is that screamin goes mainly over 40 MPH most the ride...but does anyone have the facts about the ride...looked it up on WIKI and it just had the top speed
    Happy Halloween!!!

Darn it! I was going to check this myself using my GPS tracking/ mapping app, but I forgot! I did it on a couple rides at Disneyland, but the only ones that really worked were Jungle Cruise, part of Splash, and the Mark Twaiin. Of course though my phone crashed and most of my stuff got lost . Maybe someone else knows the facts...

The only roller coasters at the DLR are Matterhorn Mt. Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain, Gadgets Go Coaster, Goofy's Sky School and California Screamin'. Screamin' is the tallest one and has the steepest drops. so of course Screamin is easily the fastest coaster at the DLR.

I checked ultimatecoaster.com to be sure of it

      California Screamin=55mph
      Space Mountain= 30.2 mph
      Big Thunder Mountain=28 mph
      Goofy's Sky School=27 mph
      Gadgets Go Coaster=22 mph
      Matterhorn Mt.= 18 mph

if these are based off of top speed and your estimation that CS constant speed is around 40, (which none of the other coasters at DLR come even close to that) then its safe to say that CS is the fastest Coaster they've got.

I'm actually surprised that Gadgets Go Coaster goes faster than the matterhorn

Pretty sure a drop of 110' would get you pretty close to 55mph again.

On Coaster Counter, they list Matterhorn as going 27 mph, which seems a bit more reasonable.
Does anyone even bother with signatures anymore?

Without any viable information to back up my statement, I will say that Califorania Scream' beats any of the other coasters in The Parks. Why do I feel this way? Glad you asked! I can tell it's the fastest because of the disheveled way my hair is after I get off the ride. None of the other coasters spark the need for a brush quite like California Screamin' does.

Arguably the best ride in The Parks. But only cause it has a loop.:yea:

I believe you title shoud say "average" speed, not constant.

I'd guess it's a lot lower. It takes about 2:40, and is 6,072 feet long. That's about 26 MPH. It's slow in and out of the station, mountain the second hill, and after each braking section is not cruising very fast.

                Re: California Screamin constant speed?

Average speed should have nothing to do with it in the first place. Top speed is top speed, regardless of whether it's at launch or some other point in the ride. California Screamin' is without a doubt the fastest roller coaster at the resort.

Yeah, I'm not sure I understand the point of an "average" speed of a roller coaster. I mean, I suppose if you did the "average" speed of Top Thrill Dragster or Kingda Ka, it'd be somewhere in the 50-60 mph range, because you'd need to factor in the coasting time into and out of the stations. Which would kind of miss the point of their 100+ mph acceleration.
