  • [Question] Civies on main street?

Does anyone know why I saw a bunch of cast members in civies on main street today? They were all down the middle of the street greeting guests. I also saw more than usual walking around the park as well. Is there an initiative going on?

I would think they were probably managers most likely.

civies = civilian clothes. they weren't in a themed uniform. While I do agree they were most likely management of some kind, I still thought it odd they were out there on main street at noon with mickey hands on greeting guests. The same way themed cast members do at rope drop.

Maybe the people above them wanted them to 'get out in the real world'. Not that a few hours of saying hello does that, unless they are actually talking to guests & asking questions about their experiences. Upper management where I worked (before I retired, yay) used to tell the supervisors to go out & work with our public once in a while to remind them what we had to deal with so they could 'relate to their staff'. Didn't work. LOL

It's a punishment for not smiling enough, if you are deemed lacking it exhibiting charm at your post you are sentenced to open mingling and general outward affection on main street for 30 minutes, it's a bit harsh, I agree, but it seems to work.

Aren't all CM's considered civilians? (Except for those who are either in the reserves or currently serving?)

again, the term "civies" here is meant to refer to the style of clothing. There are CM's wearing civilian clothing greeting guests on main street, rather than those CM's you usually see wearing their appropriately themed costumes.

There was a book signing yesterday that probably finished up around Noon. Tony Baxter was one of the signers. Perhaps he went out to "press the flesh." There were a good number of cast members "in civies" falling all over themselves at the signing.

maybe they started something new that they do at the end of new employee orientation?

a new ending to one of the park tours? be part of the show?

                            Exactly what I was thinking...
                            Civies wear street clothes.

I was thinking it was end of orientation, but I know that in Florida, you would get kicked out of orientation if you weren't in business clothes.

It is part of a new class. Many of those CMs in 'civies' are leads and trainers in business casual. That's what you are seeing when there is a high number of them at once. Otherwise when there is just a few in business casual and others in costume, then it is basically of their own accords.

The vast majority of them enjoy doing it and it is in no way punishment or anything negative.

This makes the most sense. But I don't think they were all management. There was a definite degree of awkwardness with some of them. Like they weren't sure what to do, or when. While others were very much gung ho true believers.
