[Idea] Main Street Christmas Music Loop: change needed...?

Now let me say before I begin, I am a huge fan of the current music loop on Main Street during the Holiday season. I have a strong nostalgia for it. Almost every year since I was a baby, my family has made an annual trip to Disneyland during the Holiday season. Definitely a family tradition. The current Christmas music loop on Main Street certainly has a unique sound that instantly brings me to the festive serenity of the garland lined street. I love it and at the same time wonder if maybe it's time for something new and theme appropriate.

The current loop, while great and indicative of it's own unique time and place, definitely has an almost dated sound. To me it has a very "70's" sound to it. The music and even some of the song choices (Jingle Bell Rock for example) definitely don't help the turn-of-the-century small town theme. So I wonder if maybe a new, more theme appropriate music loop would be a better fit. I mean we're all hoping and expecting a great and appropriate 1920's/30's jazz Christmas soundtrack for BVS this Holiday season so why shouldn't Main Street have a more appropriate loop. That's actually what got me thinking about this. I love the changes they made earlier this year to the regular loop to make it more cohesive so I wonder if a change for Christmas is in the works soon. Again I love the current Christmas loop and wouldn't mind if it stayed at all but wouldn't it be kinda awesome to have a theme fitting loop for Main Street like what we're all expecting BVS to get. Thoughts? Ideas? Discuss

A change would be nice, as long as that change doesn't involve removing Christmas songs for the generic holiday genre.

I really hope they stay with the current loop as I think it brings back memories for so many of us. I think the first order of business will be to find period appropriate holiday music for Buena Vista Street. It will be interesting to see if they go with the big band era sound or go more towards what they've done with the Main Street loop.

And what about Carsland? Will we hear a loop of Mater carols?

I am a huge fan of the current holiday loop on main street that I scoured music stores and actually pieced together the entire collection myself. I agree, Jingle House Rock could go, but never the music box songs.

I think the current Christmas music is fine. The only gripe I have with it is they play it so dang loud! Other than that I don't have a problem with it. And kudos to Disney for having the guts to include, albeit not sung, "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of Creation!"

I think they got away with that one as it was probably included under the guise of "Lobet Den Herren" which is essentially the same text in German. Not really a Christmas carol here in the states, but maybe it's one in the Lutheran tradition?

I've been collecting these myself, and I was SO excited when I found "The Christmas Tree" on iTunes a couple of years ago. It's easily my favorite of all of those recordings and it just SOUNDS like the perfect combination of Disneyland and Christmas when I am in the park during the holiday season.

Well I guess my original thought in all this is was as Disney fans, it's interesting we all accept music that is definitely theme inappropriate on Main Street yet if similar music were to appear on BVS for Christmas, most would be upset that they didnt record theme appropriate pieces. I will again say I share the same love all you have for the current Main Street music. "The Christmas Tree" is definitely my favorite; I'm whistling it right now. Just hearing some of the songs instantly brings to DL and it's so quintessential at this point to the Main Street Christmas atmosphere. I think it would be interesting though to have a theme appropriate loop that had Christmas carols and pieces done in Ragtime style and such for Main Street. Maybe one day, who knows...I don't know how well the fan community would react.

And concerning BVS Christmas music, I have a feeling they'll steer clear of a big band sound and go more with a smaller jazz ensemble orchestration similar to the sound they have now. More pre/beginning of swing/big band sound. They'll probably have a whole new music loop recorded by Jim Mora's band. Plus just last year, Hollywoodland was using the big band and standards singers Christmas classics and seeing as their relatively new music loop is all swing/big band (much different than BVS), I'm sure that land will keep that sound.

I think if they ever replaced the current Main Street Christmas loop, I might cry. So many emotions and Christmas memories tied to it.

The Christmas Tree is also my favorite song from the loop. I spent forever trying to track it down years ago (before the track list was available) because DL/WDW is pretty much the only place that song even exists anymore. Never heard it played anywhere else, ever. Which really surprises me because it's such a bouncy and festive Christmas tune.

i believe all the tracks had been released on commercially on one disk or another, just not on one album. Most people have gathered all the tracks into their own personal compilation album.

i believe all the tracks had been released on commercially on one disk or another, just not on one album. Most people have gathered all the tracks into their own personal compilation album.
