  • [Question] Just one more People Mover post.

I know there has been a bunch of these lately but mine is a little different. My thoughts are focused on what is left of the tracks INSIDE buildings, like Space Mountain and Star Tours. Is it possible to rip them out of there without having to touch the building itself, or will they have to do major remodeling to the building just to get them out? OR! just be lazy jerks and leave beautiful People Mover tracks left in the ride. I think if I knew that there was track left in the Star Tours queue, AFTER a remodel, it will bring me down.

As far as anyone without inside knowledge knows the tracks are still inside all of the buildings. It is possible to see part of the track while riding Buzz Lightyear at one point in the ride, and while in the queue for the new Star Tours I believe there is still the opening behind the speeder R2-D2 is working on. As for the opening that used to exist in the extended queue of the ride, it has been blocked from view by a mural on the wall. I have no idea about the Star Trader store.

As for removing the rest of the track, it could easily be done for the outdoor portions, behind innovations (if the building is being gutted or removed), behind space mountain and the portion in the circle vision theater building (now buzz lightyear). As for star tours it could be a little more of a hassle as part was essential right in the queue. They could remove a bunch over time during night, but that's more of a hassle and possibly more expensive to pay for.

I think that you walk under the People Mover/Rocket Rods track when you go through the portal after the Fastpass check at Star Tours. then when you walk up the incline before the u-turn back to the robot scanner the track if just to the right of the walkway.

There's two structures that make up what people commonly refer to as the Peoplemover / Rocket Rods track. There's the support platform, which is the visible concrete structure, and then there's the actual track. The Peoplemover propulsion system was built into the track that was laid on top of the platform, and it used electric motors to spin tires that propelled the cars. That track was removed when the tubular (I believe?) track for the self-propelled Rocket Rods was installed on the platform.

What i meant was when they decide to get rid of them will they be lazy and just leave them in the buildings or will the do the full remove?

My guess is that they'd only get rid of the platforms running through the buildings if they decided that they needed all the vertical space in those sections for something else, or if they found that the platforms had somehow become unsound and unsafe. Otherwise, why spend the money?

Oh, there will always be yet another PeopleMover post, so long as there is no PeopleMover replacement (...and even then).

The Peoplemover would be just like Nemo or Captain EO, its a big deal right now because its gone, but if they ever brought it back it would be really popular for the first month and fade away into nothing again.

                      Submarines look really popular still.

PeopleMover was a pleasant, smooth, long and scenic ride -- don't forget that even Grandma needs to relax and have fun at Disneyland.

Im sure you're right, but it makes me sad. Seriously though, i dont want to know that Star Tours still has some of the track of one of the rides i remember the most from when i was a kid. I understand it now, because having to take down all that track would force them to shut down large parts of Tomorrowland just to have a little more space. But if i didnt have to see them and every blue moon get remind that they are still there in some form would bring me down.

No need to appolagize. I don't know why but I don't get tire of thes Threads regarding the People Mover. Most of us agree Tommorowland need something up there on those track or even track that are removed and rebuilt. That motions gives the land life. At this point for me it doesn't have to be a people mover clone
