  • [Other] Aladdin "Missing" Carpet and Actors

I know this has been discussed before and I tried to find the older thread to just reply in but they're all locked. We went to the park yesterday and I brought my 3 year old daughter to the show because she loves the movie and I just have to say they need to do SOMETHING with the "A Whole New World" segment of the show. It's been almost if not over a year since the flying carpet malfunction? Either fix that dang thing or just have Aladdin and Jasmine come out earlier on the stage carpet. The first half of the song with them singing but no where to be seen is so incredibly awkward. My daughter spent the whole time looking around trying to find them. The people with the pyramids and eiffel towers on their heads do not do anything to keep people's attention.

Obviously it seems they're not going to fix the carpet or they would have done it already which is fine. But at least just have them do the first half that normally would have been flying around the theater on the stage.

    End of rant...

Personally I don't think the show in its current form is acceptable without the carpet.

With Aladdin making it's way to Broadway, I'm quite certain it wont be around for much longer.

Yes it was a bit awkward, especially when they get off the stationary carpet onto the cloud. How the heck is that possible. I still love the Aladdin show nevertheless.

If this was a horse, they would have taken it out and shot it by now. They really need a new, fresh show in the theater at this point.

I disagree wholeheartedly. It pulls hundreds of people out of the park for 45 minutes of show, not to mention the hour or so some people wait in line to get in to see it, multiple times per day. Those shows are packed all the time, and most people genuinely enjoy it. There's every possibility with the new show being prepped for Broadway that this will be replaced soon, but even with its changes and difficulties (the carpet sequence in particular) it is far from a dead horse.

I suppose an upgrade with elements from the Broadway version would be too much to hope for....

I don't care for the show enough anymore to even be bothered by this. The whole show needs to be replaced. It's gone on way too long. FantasyLand Theater used to have similar productions that were changed out no more than 2 years. Come on Disney. Get with your older self.

I don't think any of the shows in the Fantasyland Theatre had as big of a following as Aladdin, nor the production value. I think Disney is going to wait until after the Cars Land rush to do anything to the Hyperion considering it's quite a large venue that eats up a lot of people at a time and they'd need the space to rehearse in. I'm not holding my breath until at least after Summer 2013.

The show as a whole, however, is not ruined by the lack of the carpet. It's still an amazing show for the other 40 minutes.

The show is great, but they really should have reworked the carpet sections when they decided it wasn't coming back. Its going to be leaving soon, now.

I agree that the carpet scene needs to be reworked. I don't understand why the carpet just can't rise from the floor sooner. There must be SOME reason that this doesn't happen, but I can't wrap my head around it.

As for the show. It is kept semi-fresh with the Genie and still pulls in more than the Snow White show ever did in Disneyland. I'm all for a worth replacement, but I'll continue to impose idea like a "Toy Story" musical. Even though they did a fairly good show turning Nemo into a musical in DAK, it still doesn't measure up to Aladdin in my opinion. But find a really good suitable replacement, and I'm in.

It's true that the Genie's ad-libs are the only thing that keep this show somewhat relevant. Neither the cast nor the effects were up to snuff when I saw it last month.

The Snow White show in the Fantasyland theater was a huge disappointment after Beauty & the Beast & Pocohontas. I would love to see them put in a version of the Hunchback show they used to do in Florida - or a new "Tangled" show.

                          Make it happen Disney!

I'm not sure I understand. It wasn't long ago that the Aladdin show was in fact scheduled to go away, in favor of a Toy Story show. But popular opinion prevented this. They kept Aladdin because everyone loved it so much. But now it's a horse that needs to be put down? Because there is no more magic carpet?

Yes, I wish they'd rework the scene with the missing carpet. But I still go see the show. Still love it. Seen it a bunch of times.

Believe it or not, I never took the time to see the show until last summer and I was SORELY disappointed (the carpet was still working at this point) . I was shocked that it's so darn popular with everyone, and I happen to be a HUGE fan of live theatre, and work in the industry as a matter of fact.
Hopefully they're able to produce something fantastic in the near future, DCA is really a high quality park now, and I'd like to see something that parallels what's going on in the rest of the park in the Hyperion.

If anything, the lack of maintenance suggests that Aladdin's time is limited.

You know how it is... if Disney ignores an attraction long enough, the public will eventually call for its removal. Disney is then free to remove the once-beloved attraction relatively unscathed.

That being said, I still enjoy the show (but mostly for the genie).

I think it was more the fact that it was being replaced by Toy Story, which no one wanted. There is already so much Toy Story in DLR too.

I believe it was supposed to be the same show as the cruise ships, which I've heard weren't that good.

Could be confused though. I agree this show needs to be retired. It was great show and had a great run, but now it's just ehh.

I just saw the show this morning (11:55AM) and let me tell you there is an extremely awkward 2 to 3 mins while there nothing going on, you can here the singing, and just see fog and landscapes, everyone in the audience is looking for them. The carpet needs to come up earlier, or fix the carpet. Additionally when the carpet worked it was an amazing "WOW" only disney can do this factor, and that magic is missing from the show. If there is one thing little kids will remember from that show it would be the flying carpet.

The cast was way smaller than normal, and on top of the carpet the show was having techincal issues with the Mics. Of coarse Genie keep it together, he ask Jafar why his first wish wasn't for the mics to work.

Yeah, saw the Toy Story show on the cruise ship. Not impressed. Good once, but not something I'll see again. Even the pyro in it isn't enough to grab my attention more than once.
