  • [Other] Carthay Circle restriction on single diners

I've discovered that the Carthay Circle restaurant restricts seating for single diners. I made a booking by phone for October 7th and was offered only two possible times. One of those was satisfactory, so I thought nothing of it. Since then, Gay Days Anaheim has announced a Florence Henderson event I'd like to attend that evening. I called a short time ago to investigate moving my Carthay Circle booking earlier in the evening. The nice cast member seemed embarrassed to tell me that there's very limited seating for single diners, so there was no other time to which I could change my booking.

There probably are few people like me who enjoy single dining at Disney. Still, I find this a disturbingly discriminatory policy. Perhaps airing my disappointment publicly here will bolster the personal email I've submitted to Disney and persuade rethinking this policy at Carthay Circle. I've never had any problem at Blue Bayou, Napa Rose or other Disney restaurants, so this seems an aberration.

I wonder what the purpose of that policy is....to try to gain as much income as possible? A single diner fills a table just as well as a party of two. ::shrugs:: That's disappointing, Michael- I'm sorry.

Have you tried speaking to a supervisor and seeing if they can explain the policy or make a exception if needed? It might be worth a chance to give it a shot if you haven't already. I am certainly curious to what the outcome is.

Did they say there's limited availability for single diners across the board, or were there specifically few options available on that day? I suspect, with the event announcement, you weren't the only one trying to arrange your reservation to accommodate it. As a single diner, you'd be seated at a 2-top, which are always high in demand. While the way she stated it may have made it sound like an anti-single policy, it may've been just simple scarcity of the kind of table you needed, based on high demand. I suspect if you had a party of 8, you'd have equally few options. It might not be a discriminatory practice, but just a reality of supply and demand.

This was my thought also. There are limited 2 tops. They aren't going to give up a 4 top to a single diner.

            Supply/demand, plain and simple.

You know the old adage, "Ask 10 CMs, get 10 different answers!" While I agree with the above posts about supply and demand, I would call again and ask a different CM. It is possible that the one who first spoke with you was misinformed. Also, as a single diner, can you sit at the bar and order off the upstairs menu? Don't know whether that is an option at CCR.

Nope. The upstairs and downstairs menus are different & exclusive.
