  • [Question] Am I the only one who prefer DCA's ToT?...

I often hear of people comparing The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney California Adventure to the original at Disney's Hollywood Studios and saying that it doesn't compare. The most prominent difference and complaint is that the one at Disney California Adventure doesn't have a Fifth Dimension scene, however I prefer it this way. I feel like the scene slows things down and when you have been on it multiple times you know exactly when the drop is about to happen (you can actually feel a change in the temperature once you roll out into the elevator shaft). At Disney California Adventure the action starts as soon as you pull away from the elevator doors and it happens much quicker and it felt as if I never knew exactly when the drops would start.

Also, I prefer the West coast's drop profile much more. I know it isn't random like in Florida, but this means it has the same intense drops over and over. In Florida, the randomization has left me with some bunny hops that make me think "Meh."

Am I the only one who prefers the one in Cali?

Re: Am I the only one who prefer DCA's ToT?...

I prefer the shorter wait times I've seen in Cali vs Orlando. The ride for me in Orlando is "better" not necessarily more thrilling but the story telling of the one in Orlando is much better. However, the problems I've heard that they have had with reliability issues is why they build DCA's version (and every other version of the ride uses the DCA model because of this also). This means that DCA's has less downtime so I can see how both have their advantages.

I like the one in CA better, mainly because, the scary parts freak me out, and I like to get to the drop faster.

TOT in DHS is my favorite ride in the whole resort, so that tells you where my sentiments lie. It's a masterpiece.

But if you happen to prefer the one at DCA, then more power to you.

I am glad both rides have their differences it takes away from the complete clone aspect. I to love ours actually my favorite parts is the pre-show I love the Walk through and just how detailed it is almost a show with in a show.

Its been quite a while since I've been to the one in Disneyworld, but I liked how there was more of a show.

The one at WDW caters more to the once-in-a-lifetime guest, I think. The longer show portion definitely leaves a bigger impact, but if you're going there as often as some go to DLR, then I can see where it might get stale or slow. DCA's Tower does a good job of bringing on the show portion but also getting to the drop sequence in a timely manner that's still enjoyable 100 rides later. That being said, right now I prefer WDW's. But if I ride it a few more times, I might be inclined to change my answer...

Also, it's totally easy to tell when you're going to drop. :P

When you consider how Oriental Land Company spends on the Tokyo Disney Resort, it definitely says something that they chose to go with the DCA format instead of the WDW format for their Tower of Terror.

I can't handle the ride (rode it once in 2004 but never again), but I do like how they've included the attraction into the new back stories they created for the park. It's like it has a place in the fictional history of Hollywoodland and Buena Vista Street.

Having rode both this year I agree with you! I think its much more believable staying in the elevator shaft and seeing the ghosts on an open floor and the drops are much more intense, at least compared to the pattern I got in Florida.

The mirror in DCA is awesome.. beyond that.. everything else is better in FL.

I totally agree. I rode DCA first and then went on WDW and was really disappointed it was not as thrilling

I like the Orlando version a little better because, honestly, I was at Hollywood Studios on a really slow weekday, and managed to ride ToT ten times in a row without waiting in line. I think the switching-shafts effect is really amazing, and it's a shame that it doesn't exist in Anaheim.

                              - Random Drop Sequences
                              - 5th Dimension Room
                              - Location of Hotel up on the hill (more ominous and an actual Icon) not just stuck in a corner of the park
                              - No "Enter/Exit" through Hallway
                              - Enter/Exit in different portions of the Hotel (like you were actually IN The Twilight Zone)

For all these reasons, FL's wins HANDS DOWN (IMO).

If the DCA version would get random drop sequences it would "help" but it still wouldn't be better than the original.

Ditto... as someone from Florida told me after visiting DCA for the first time.

"They somehow figured out how to ruin ToT..."

The Florida one is a true Ride, where the DCA one is a (highly) dressed up carnival ride with some cool effects.

The 5th dimension room is HUGE to the effect, it also builds it up, being in the same chamber just doesn't do it for me.

I like DCAs Tower better. The one thing I do like about Floridas Tower is that when you enter the elevator there is no akward hallway and when you exit it is somewhere different. I do not care for the 5th dimension and after you enter the second shaft, you are just sitting there waiting. I also do not like the random drop sequence. The one I had was weak and made the ride less intense and boring.

The story telling comes out in the Orlando one better IMO. From the approach to the attraction all the way to the exit. They really made it a mysterious place to go to and experience. Even the road is messed up and cracked around it. The over grown plants in the front just so many details. The one here in DCA is awesome but if you asked me which one i would rather go on it would be the WDW one.
