  • [Question] Oh-ver-rated! *clap* *clap* "clap-clap-clap*

Simply put, name an attraction you think is way overrated.

    Buzzlightyear.

A cardboard cutout attraction tied into modern shooting gallery technology. Meh.

Soarin over California. Don't understand why this ride is so popular. I would like it more if it went under a nice rehab that cleaned up the screen and updated the ride system to where you couldn't see dangling legs in front of you.

If by overrated you mean the line is not worth the attraction? Then Nemo.

Nemo Submarines: You wait in line for an hour to be put into a hot, stuffy sardine can to watch television underwater. It's not worth it, imo.

Peter Pan's Flight: Again, a ride where you wait in line for an hour to "fly" around in a ship for under 60-seconds. I'll never ride it again. Not worth the wait.

Soarin' Over California: It's just lame, imo.

Autopia: If I wanted to drive a car I would drive my own.

Anything longer then a 20 minute line. Please refrain from screaming "local". Even when I vacation with my family we make sure to do it in the "off season" so we're not surrounded by crowds.

You should try Grand Canyon in April;1/2 as many people, minimal heat, possible snow on the ground and still as amazing as ever. Sequoia before Memorial Weekend is equally stunning, the only drawback being too cold to camp. Catalina after Labor Day weekend is another example... substantially cheaper and a LOT less crowded. Sure you "chance" having a ride or two being down for refurb and reduced hours/shows, but the tradeoff is a lot less people and less heat!

The former Rainbow Caverns area as an iteresting pace to look at from Tom Sawyer Lair at Barnicle Island is way overrated. Get a new attraction in there doctor, stat!

Tiki Room; I love it dearly, but it gets old. It needs interactive features.

it's a small world. Looks great on the outside, especially at Christmas. On the inside, not so much. The great show building rides like POTC, HM, and IJA you never get the sense you are actually in a building. With iasw, you see the ceiling and the corners and the electrical wiring.... all pretty cheesy.

Swinging gondolas on the Funwheel. Yes they are good for a quick thrill, but in the stationary ones you actually get to take in and enjoy the views of the resort that the wheel offers.

Fantasmic. It's ok to see once, but I don't see anything compelling about it that demands that I need to watch it again. On top of that, it is far too noisy and loud. Plus, I hate navigating NOS to get to POC and HM when it's being performed. I'm planning my next trip during the off-season so I can enjoy NOS at evening time. I remember it as being rather peaceful and tranquil.

                                  Short answer: Nemo.

                                  Long Answer w/ Back story:
My Significant Other (SO) and I went to the DLR last time in the spring of 2011. It was the first time I was able to ride FNSV since it had opened. It was my SO's first time to the DLR (he had only been to WDW twice in 1999 & 2001). Since I decided to break my personal rule about only going during an off peak season, it was quite crowded. Every time I looked at the line it got longer and longer. We only had one day for DLR on this trip.

On the drive down to SoCal, we talked allot about themeparks and DLR. I told him about SV of my youth and painted a pretty vivid picture (it's a gift, what can I say?) He LOVED the FN movie. We were both so over-the-moon! Both for our own personal reasons.

We didn't plan very well for the crowds and Nemo kept getting pushed off. While heading for a whirl on Space, we noticed the line was the longest it had been all day for FNSV (at dusk); right there we planned to have it be the last ride of the night at midnight. By the time we stepped off Space after using a FP, the line had disappeared. What? I quickly realized that it must have gone down. I saw ppl rushing to the queue and right after that I heard a CM acting as a "barker" letting ppl know that the ride was now open. Score! We were on the first sub out after it re-opened! We were so happy to be so lucky.

It should have told me something right there... if ppl aren't willing to stand in line to wait for an attraction to come back up (at least a handful of die-hards when the park was at a 7.5/10), it must mean something is a bit "off" on the ride’s over-all experience. It was less than a half hour from the longest line we have seen all day, to absolutely no one in the queue. I suppose it was possible that a CM discouraged riders from waiting. I don't know if this is SOP for them to do this??? But I have seen ppl wait for E-tickets to come back up, E-tickets of any age or style, for over an hour.

Either way, FNSV was a letdown and not only was I bummed at the mediocre ride experience (I won’t get into the over-hyped nostalgia that Disney purported to repackage for us), I felt like a heel w/ regards to my SO... "Srsly, it was like we watched a movie trailer under water", he said. Now, 18 months later, whenever we come across something that is an insignificant letdown, we say W.A.N (we say it – “whaaaaan”) What A Nemo.

He doesn't mind the cut-outs on smaller rides and the lesser effects on older rides and I don't either of course, but when we were driving we took turns researching the ride stats as I mentioned above. How many millions of dollars for that? That's what they came up with? I suspect, sarcastically, yet truthfully, that a majority of the budget was for marketing. We saw all the past articles and the hype during our research. We purposely skipped the comments and forums with opinions. We wanted to find out for ourselves. So, yeah, Nemo is definitely at the top of my list… before I saw the anti-hype online. Do I hate it? No. Do I want the old subs back? Not really. I just want something better. I want a true E-ticket. But that's another thread.
Our consolation and up-shot: we walked right on b/c we were in the right place at the right time.

                                    At DLR:

TSMM, I have the exact same game on my Wii (I don't have to wait for that one and I can play nonstop for hours if I want).

RSR, it's really fun the first couple times, but I found the views from the land to actually be more thrilling/ invigorating than the ride itself. It is what DCA needed, but it is not the groundbreaking ride that many (including myself) thought it would be.

Aladdin the Musical Spectacular, I have never understood the appeal of movies turned into stage shows. I would much rather watch the movie. If I want to spend my time on a stage show, I had better not know the plot before I go into it.

                                    Nemo. No explanation needed.

                                    At WDW:

Mission Space, I am pretty sure I was almost one of the people who died on this ride (I did not know at the time that I had a heart condition). The queue was the best part and I was so sick from the ride that I don't even remember getting in line.

Great Movie Ride, I am 100% certain that it could be a great ride, but it was in such a sad state the two trips I've done to WDW, that I was let down by it.

Dinosaur, Indi without the fun characters, exciting ending, and awesome queue. And the ultimate destroyer of this ride was annoying time travel aspect/ robot voice.

                                    TSM, same as DLR.

Soarin', I love it in California, but in WDW it is a joke.

Fantasyland Expansion, it could have been exactly what Magic Kingdom needed, instead its more of what has slowly turned the resort into kiddie world. I'm just glad that someone (Tom Staggs?) had the sense to make them remove one of the m&g's for a Roller coaster (even if it was also technically a clone from Shanghaii from what I have heard). TDO really is obsessed with deteriorating vacation kingdom into child interactive playground land. Maybe if WDW attendance continues to drop after the recession ends, TDO will all get fired and we can finally get some management who cares about having a design direction.
