Actually this is not clear as it may seem! (although before your comment I didn't know all this, I just researched it) Of course your right for true words, but for acronyms it not as clear:

^Although MLA format says there should be no apostrophe on APs, although recognizing that the "AP's" form is common colloquially, with "APer" it's unclear if it should be "APer's" (which is allowed for acronyms with lower case letter to distinguish it being read "A-P-ers" over "A-Pers"), or if it should be "APers" since the "Per" can be interpreted as the ending of the word Passholder....

They HAVE been giving them away. To AP holders anyway.

Just thinking out loud here, but as I recall, many AP holders have been saying they wish they'd get some extra appreciation. Well...here it is! It might not be what you had envisioned, but it's something. Even if you don't like the ears, you can always sell them or give them away.

I'd like to think it has more to do with the post-GwtS Fantasmic survey.

I indicated on my survey that I brought my own ears, while my earless bf indicated that he did not. The questions on his survey were geared toward reasons he didn't have one. One of the possible responses was "too expensive." I'd be willing to bet a lot of people said that.

I think that for some, it's not that they don't have the $20, but that they feel it's an issue of principle, that ear hats shouldn't be more than, say, $15. By offering it free with a $50 purchase, one feels that they're getting a deal, especially if they were going to spend that money anyway. It's more like... Now you're paying less than what you thought you should for those ears, rather than more.

And it's better than those other "deals" they run: spend $50 and "receive" this backpack/throw blanket for $17.95! Ick.

funny.... APs always argue how much they spend at the parks... and how they outspend tourists.. and a deal comes up that requires spending $50 to get $25.. and people turn up their noses as if spending $50 is some stretch they would never do just for this...

Maybe some APs don't spend as much as they think...

But that's exactly why they don't do it for tourists! Unfortunately tourists get the lesser deal here as Disney tries to use AP holders as advertisement for tourists (although it doesn't seem to be working very well).
