  • Toon Town Expansion

OK, so I posted this in a previous thread, but there were no responses, partially (I think) because of the name of the thread, but I wanted to post it in a different thread and see what you guys think. Any other TT expansion ideas you guys have? Here is my previous post:

Here are my ideas for perhaps "fixing" TT (I love this land, feel that it is incredibly immersive, and am also bummed that I can no longer enjoy things like Goofy's Bounce House or the Go-Coaster, which is fun for little kids, but the line for it makes all of us practical adults us and the little ones with us away from it).

Anyways.... adding onto the land. I say dump both the Go-Coaster and Chip and Dale's Treehouse (Even as a kid, I dont think I ever even explored this attraction, despite the fact that I loved those two little Rescue Rangers). I say just build a bright, colorful wall/mural straight across from the end of Mickey's House to the edges of the Go-Coaster, and get rid of everything behind this wall. The mural can be incredibly complex, as it will be massive, and encompass virtually every cartoon character in some way or another Disney has ever created. It will at least give guests something to look at while construction is going on. Kids could even play "Find so and so" and see who can find the character first.

So while guests get to marvel at the beauty of the mural, a large two story building is being constructed. When finished, this building will have the same cartoon-y look as the other buildings in TT have, but will look as if it is an extension of Mickey's Movie Set that we find at the end of exploring the Main Mouse's House. After all, all of these movie star toons need someplace to work in their city. So now we have a HUGE movie set building, beautifully decorated to the TT theme (it will also have the large mural talked about before located somewhere on it, so that the great piece of artwork doesn't go to waste). As said before, this is a continuation of Mickey's Movie Set, so as you leave Mickey's movie house, you see animated Mickey on a large screen pop up in his garage (the last place you are in before you re-enter TT) reminding you all to check out the rest of his set right next door (a cheesy pitch I know, but it keeps with the idea of it all being his set so as not to confuse guests). So what do we find inside this BIG BIG set? Why not one, but TWO rides of course! On the far side (ex-Go Coaster) We have Philiarmagic(spl?), which is now portrayed as Mickey's Directorial debut. On the other, we have Great Toon Ride (I havn't heard any ideas for what this ride would consist of, just that people would like to see a Great Toon Ride, which I would think would be like Great Movie Ride? So I'm just going to come up with my version of it, any other ideas for it would be greatly appriciated). So you enter GTR on the ground floor, where the great queue (thing Roger Rabit Spin type queue here) explains that we are indeed on a movie set, all the Toons are here hard at work, some working on new projects, others just helping "digitally restore" scenes from their classic movies. So you enter your ride vehicle (can't think of what it would look like. Thoughts?) and proceed to embark on a backstage tour of all of these sound stages. Does something go wrong? Of course it does. Because your vehicle, whatever theme it may become, is being driven by either Pete or any other Disney Villian (this driver is also your tour guide for the ride. Many of these poor villains have been having trouble finding work lately, so have taken up the occupation of guide around the studio). Each vehicle has a different AA villain, each with different audio recorded, so your ride will be different each time depending on which villain you get (please note: the villains won't be too scary for the little ones, you just can tell they dont like their jobs, and would prefer to be wrecking havoc or something like that). So the villains , midway through your peaceful tour, decide to "kick it up a notch" in the words of Emeril, and causing meyhem , disturbing the stars as they film their scenes. After a few scenes being disturbed, Mickey gets on the in-vehicle loudspeaker and tells the villain to knock it off, which they do eventually, and the ride continues/ends as it began, with a peaceful tour around Mickey's Set. This ride takes up the rest of the first floor, whatever room Philiarmagic does not take up, and ALL of the second floor, making it a massive rideI don't want to get into all of the possible toons which could be featured here, just wondering on your thoughts of it all.

P.S Sorry it got a bit long

P.P.S. I know some work needs to be done on the idea, but any suggestions to fix it? I'd appriciate it

Why not put in Mickey's Philharmagic in the "Toon Town Concert Hall"? Of course the Toon Town Concert Hall doesnt exsist yet but from what Ive seen, M'sPHM would be a perfect addition.

      All good ideas, but...

This is my battle cry: NO MORE CLONED ATTRACTIONS!!!

      Thank you that is all.

Yes, I know Philiarmagic is a cloned attraction, but unfortunately, clones are becoming a way of life. They're cheaper to build since most of the hard work has already been done. Great Toon Ride, however, is all new. If it takes one good clone to get us a REALLY great new ride, I'm all for it, especially if they'll take up the same building i.e. no wasted space.

Toontown is fine the way it is. If you put anything back there more popular than what is already there, then you have an even more crowded land. It's hard enough to navigate Toon Town. Unless they can add more walking space back there, I say leave it be.

Whoops! Forgot in that lengthy post of mine to mention that there would also be room next to this new building (between Donald's boat and former Go-Coaster site) for a path/walkway of some sort to be built between TT and Critter Country, possibly with some rides on this path, maybe just some thematic elements to help with the transition, or just some wonderful music and benches playing that can also serve as a place to relax

Well, one of my big dreams is to get that Toon Critters expansion around the berm... Instead of building it out all at once, I think this would be a way of expanding a piece at a time so that, say, ten years down the line, you build the two dead ends into one continuous path, rather than building a long but emtpy path, which eventually gets filled with rides.

Again, not the world's biggest Toon Town fan normally, but Great Toon Ride is something I'd go back there for. And I think you developed the concept pretty well. I like the idea that different villain "hosts" guide the vehicles to make it more repeatable. I think you could also use the Indy technology to have the AA stars interact with the ride in different ways. But, to cut costs, I think I'd maybe do all that through the recorded spiel, rather than actual AAs on the vehicles.

Another way to do the ride would be based on the old Stitch ads... I thought those were some of the most creatve, well-done ads Disney has done in ages. So they could play with that concept a bit. Lilo and Stitch visit Disneyland, and Lilo narrates the scenes we pass through, with Stitch occasionally jumping out of the vehicle to jump into the scenes. I especially love someone's avatar, with Tramp kissing Stitch. But even when Stitch is behaving and not jumping into the scenes, he can help Lilo narrate.

But yeah, the key here is to give some love to some great toons who we DON'T see all the time, too. Lady and the Tramp, Jose Carioca, Baloo. Bambi gets his own ride to ease the transition between Toons and Critters... I suppose they could even do the unthinkable and put a Monsters ride there instead of DCA. Some toons just don't really have enough to earn a full ride of their own, but a Great Toon Ride would be a great way to do a Disney Version of that "Smile, darn ya, smile" song at the end of Roger Rabbit. A big reunion, where ALL toons are celebrated, even those pesky villains.

Hmmm that stitch idea is pretty intriguing actually (I always wanted to see the seven dwarves singing Hi-Ho in the mine and then we see stitch w/ a pick-axe going away at the wall, and the whole thing come down, only to see the dwarves stick their heads out at the end through all the debris w/ disgruntled looks on their faces  ) the possibilities for Stitch messing things up are enormous

Exactly! I wish I had a link with all the commercials, but man could you have fun recreating them, and coming up with new ones too. You find yourself in Bambi's forest fire, with a sweet innicent looking Stitch, but when your ride vehicle goes behind him, you see behind his back a roasted marshmallow... Have Stitch replace Boo and terrorize Monstropolis...

The Imagineers could really have some fum with this concept, and maybe take it a step further... Lilo got Stitch at the pound, right? So have a scene where he is in the pound during Peg's song. I don't know the movie well enough to see if you could do Stitch's whole life story that way, but you could have fun trying.

                    I'll clone YOU!!!!

anywho clone attractions have been around as long as multiple parks have been around

when you think about it WDW makes a better testing ground then DL and it's parks

why? because if you build something in WDW or it's only a margional success while you may have lost $$$ investing in it you haven't lost another valuable thing, LAND

however if you create a failure at DL or DCA then you've got to build around it rebuild it build through it

it becomes horrid were as at WDW you can do almsot whatever you want with land because there will almost always be more

While I agree with the "more land" argument as a method of R&D, I don't think that the process has to end in cloning. Look at Hunny Hunt. We could apply that to our Pooh, true. Butm aren't there countless other stories we could tell using the Hunt technology as a springboard?

That's why something like the Great Toon Ride is a fun idea. It doesn't have to use the same cars as GMR. It could use anything from basic dark ride cars to Hunny Hunt cars to Indy cars to some brand new ride car no one has come up with yet. And you use the basic idea of GMR to create a theme that is unique to Anaheim. Each park gets state-of-the-art attractions, but you don't get that "seen it, done it" feeling you get with literal clones.

My Idea would be to just knock the whole thing down and put what should have been there: DISCOVERY BAY instead of the demented fiberglass world. it's like mickey on acid or a high dollar carnivale attraction :botox:

Well, I don't see why Discovery Bay couldn't still be built in the RanchHeck, then they could do. They can move Astro Orbiter over there and do the whole Verne thing. Heck, then as a transition ride between the two lands, they could do the 20,000 Leagues Under Nemo ride and leave my submarines alone.

I don't necessarily think ToonTown has to go away entirely, it just needs to find more things for more people to do.
