Two different photos in two different lights just emphasizes the "graininess" of the granite.

Looks like it was just sand blasted and sealed with some epoxy.

I agree that it just looks like it was cleaned and/or refinished.

They probably cleaned it the night they were setting up the pumpkins around the base they probably took the oppurtunity of no flowers at the at moment to clean it then put the halloween overlay in that same night, just a guess

It also looks like the first photo wasn't taken with a flash and the second one was. That always causes a variance in appearance.

neither were taken with a flash. the different glares is because they replaced the flower bed as well due to halloween time and usually they rearrange the lights. and trust me, if you are familiar with the partner statue, you will see that its different. it is hard to show with night photos, but thats all I have. If you dont see it in the photos, you will see it in person. The base used to be an off white color. now its a dark grey color. I can at least see that in the photos. They are completely different shades of color. And if it was simply cleaned, the colors would go in reverse, from dark grey to off white.. But again, its not just color, its texture. It looks like rough sand paper now.

I have photos of the statue covering the last several years. I'll post more for comparison later. Its always been off white. not dark grey. I don't think they just finally cleaned it after several years either. Its probably cleaned every day otherwise bird droppings would be apparent.

if someone has day time photos for comparison, please post em. the change happened sometime in the last 7 days.

                    I'm not cra...... ooh... peanut.

They were adding "Glow with the Show" elements to Mickey's ears and Walt's eyes.

                          How is the plaque different?

Sorry--I have serious doubts that anything has been replaced. Even the fluting and shape of the decorative rings on the base are identical (albeit more difficult to discern on the lower photo).

Looks like a water sealer was used on it. That's all. Colors and textures do change when you water seal something.

And if you still believe the base was changed... just stop and think of WHY they would do something like that? Especially when there is no noticalble or significant difference or improvement? Change for change sake? Unlikely.

Take a look at this image of a concrete surface that is partially water sealed.

After looking at some on-line photos (including one taken Sept. 11 2012), I can see what Orbital means. But the "off-white" that it used to be looks more like a coating of paint, which may have been removed. I still say it's the exact same pedestal and plaque; just with a different color for whatever reason.

Disney changes paint colors all the time for no good reason--just look at Main Street!
