[Fun] SNL's Nod To The Haunted Mansion/Tom Hanks Cameo

I missed SNL last night as I fell asleep just after the opening, but found the following clip this morning on Hulu. It was a nod to the HM which included the Grim Grinning Ghosts motif and Tom Hanks climbing into their car as Walt Disney at the end. I find it fascinating that you can take four notes of a theme and ALMOST be performing that song. Not every skit on SNL works, but I thought this one was pretty clever:

I also noticed at the end of the show that Tom hanks is looking like an old Walt Disney in his mustache and hair, since they films in like 2 weeks.

Hmm... I don't know if it was a direct nod to Disney in the beginning (this skit's been going on for years), but I definitely think Tom Hanks was supposed to be Walt Disney.

I wish SNL had more skits about Disneyland; they really could do some funny things.
        Fear of the unknown.

They are afraid of new ideas.

Yeah, he grew out the mustache for his role as Walt in "Saving Mr. Banks." I think it started filming about a month or two ago.

I loved it. I laughed thru it. Loved how the ghosts looked like Dapper Dans. Loved how Tom's character was very robotic, (animotronic)

They did a similar sketch with the same Audio-Animatronic Characters last season by the way. Although this sketch was great, I think the first one they did was even better. But maybe that is because it was a fresh idea to me then, and this was not as new to me now.

Here are all the SNL Amusement park skits I could find on the NBC site. The first one is the one with Jim Carrey.

I think they were all pretty good, but I did like the Tom Hanks/Walt Disney reference.

They started filming some time ago. There were just in Pasadena filming about a week ago. There is suppose to be some filming at Disneyland too.

This skit is not based on Disneyland. This style of skit is something that SNL has previously done many times before (as referenced in previous posts). If you want a true skit about Disney Parks look up the original Debbie Downer.

Thanks for all of these links! I had seen one of the Merryville skits before, but not the other one. The HM nod, to me anyway, is the musical theme that they were using. The first five notes were lifted from Grim Grinning Ghosts before they tweaked it. Not sure if anything was meant by the dead rat on the hood of the coffin car, but together with the music and the chainsaw, etc, I thought this was the funniest of the three.

I've also seen many varieties of this sketch before and didn't find this version to mean anything in particular to DL's Haunted Mansion. Each skit provides a way for the robots to be pervy and usually ends with the robots trying to abduct the rotating female character. I don't think Hanks' character was suppose to be Walt Disney... especially since the character repeatedly tries to grab the girl's boobs.
