  • [Review] Mice rule universal drools

Trip tip: if you're going to both Disneyland and Universal (perhaps with a Citypass) do Uni first. You'll be less disappointed that way!

just beware that you must visit the park you purchase the Citypass from first.

Ill provide all the gory details in our trip report.

Yes Disney does Beat them in rides, ect. But Universal has this feel you can only get there. Maybe because it is a working studio...

The feel was that of dirt & grime topped with rude, unhappy employees.

Wow that's a shame. Usually when I'm there for a visit way more than at Disney the employees are friendly and the park is much cleaner than Disney actually.

I love me some Universal Studios Hollywood (I'm going tomorrow in fact, and I can't wait). I do agree that Disney is superior when it comes to theme parks but Universal is still awesome. The real working studio is something Disney doesn't offer (no, I don't count Hollywood Studios in Florida) and it's fantastic. Disney may have the yet hand in theme parks but their film legacy is, without a doubt, inferior to Universal's. Sorry you didn't have a good time.

I always come back with mixed feelings about Universal. I enjoy visiting, but my biggest complaint is their lack of offerings. I can spend 5 days in DLR and barely feel satiated. After three hours in Universal I'm looking for my car keys. Don't get me wrong, they do a lot of things right, but they need to offer more to the tourist to keep them there for more than a few hours...

I agree. This should change once Potter opens. I'm anxiously awaiting that day.

if you buy the citypass at the front gate of universal studios you can use it at any park because we activate them at the booths for you. websites are different story for all of the parks.

I agree with the order of doing these parks, but for different reasons.

                        Walking.

I've never been sore from all the walking I did at Universal, it's a warm up for DL at best.

When my husband and I first started dating he had never been to Disneyland. I took him once and he had a great time. The next time we wanted to go to a theme park he suggested two days at Universal since they were having a buy one, get two deal. We spent the first day at Universal and had fun, but we did not end up using the second day and went back to Disneyland instead. We actually haven't been back to Universal since...that was seven years ago. I do want to go to Universal Orlando, however.

well, it's more of a studio than it is a theme park. the studio section is very huge. They film a few DISNEY movies at Universal Studios. It's funny they filmed Pirates at Universal and not DL.

Well ya you can't film pirates at Disneyland it's not a movie studio.

I think Universal is great for the tour and if you're a film buff. I do think the parks in Orlando are far superior.

maybe it's cleaner because there are less people there? I've found it to be the other way around. The employees are not great, but not bad either. They do their job but they don't go out of their way to make magic for their guests like Disney's Cast Members do. (maybe there are some experiences but they've never happened to me and I don't think I've ever heard stories of any)

I agree that Universal has a great studio tour but very few attractions. The crazy amount of 3D shows/rides that they offer leave me with a headache and another complaint is that going from one end of the park to the other takes so much energy, especially the long escalator rides. They also have few nighttime offerings and close early. You get what you pay for, nothing more, nothing less. It's a park that I would go to once, but not would make multiple visits. The park I have a gripe about is Knotts, but i'll save that for another thread

If the plan is to go to Uni first to avoid disappointment, that would include avoiding Transformers because that ride puts every ride Disney has done post-IJA to shame.

And don't forget the awesome enthusiasm you get from the employees on the backlot tour...
