  • [Question] Why isn't the Main St. Xmas Tree BIGGER?

    It's only 60 ft tall.

The other trees within OC/LA are more bigger. most of them are around the 100 ft range.
    for example.
---Fashion Island in Newport Beach tree lighting this week feat Mickey Mouse and other characters will be there. 100 ft tree.

---The Grove LA had their tree lighting yesterday feat the Backstreet boys, the American Idol winner, etc.

---Citadels outlet featuring Ariana Grande the girl from Victorious, and other famous ppl.

---and South Cost Plaza The Americana in Glendale etc all have trees in the 95-115 ft range trees but DL is only 60.

Oh it must be hard decorating these trees, they are real each year plus they have to add branches, lights, and ornaments.
all these places in OC/La have bigger, real trees and also feature celebrities (kinda like the Xmas day parade at DLR)

It would look out of scale with the rest of Main Street.

I dont think that be noticeable. the trees are already out of scale because the trees behind the DL castle are the same height as the castle itself. and the trees around the matterhorn are half the size of the mountain itself.

It surely would because the tree would look wierd if it deviates from a conical shape to fit on the end of Town Square.

Agree that it would look out of scale. The ones out behind the castle are off in the distance, the xmas tree in the middle of town square is a tree that you can look at up close and with totally different sightlines while approaching it.

Additionally, the taller the tree, the bigger the base, and we all know DL doesn't have much room to spare. If they kept the same size base and went another 40 ft, wow, it would look like some odd Dr. Suess tree. LOL.

Hmm. Ok I guess? If u say so.
If Disney can make a 77ft castle in scale but also make a 189ft castle in scale then what difference does it make with a tree. Both castle are in scale but very difference in size and both work. Same thing goes for a tree since trees ca be naturally 100ft. So maybe a 100ft tree would be more better at wdw than Dl. Since they have a bigger castle and bigger garlands and wreaths hanging down Main Street.

Insurance reasons? Building code reasons? Engineering/safety issues?

It was probably a design decision, I'm with the "It may look out of scale" with the other elements/buildings in the area..

Maybe makes it easier for visitors to get nice pictures of the whole tree?

IMO, It's too early to put up tree's yet but I guess that's the new normal. Start playing Christmas music right after Halloween.

I live near Fashion Island and let me tell you -- their tree is HUGE. The top of it easily reaches above Bloomingdale's next door to it. And that is a 3 story department store built in the late 1960s. And it is a regular sized building -- not miniature like on Main Street. Also the base of the tree would easily take up so most of Town Square. In summary the scale would be way off.

Also look at it this way. When you are standing on the platform of Main Street Staton and look out imagine a 100+ foot tree. That's so big most of Main Street would most likely be blocked. A smaller tree is just perfect given the setting.

The different sizes of castles work because of the different distances between the end of Main Street and the castles in each park. The hub area in the Magic Kingdom is much larger to push the castle further away form Main Street so that it feels more in scale when you look down the street, despite it being much larger. At Disneyland, the hub is much smaller to bring the castle closer so it looks a little larger. Scale isn't just size, it is also distances. Also, when viewing down Main Street from the hub to Town Square, a tree any taller than what is there would look ridiculous. Many of the buildings are "3" stories tall in scaled theme, but a 100ft tree would really throw that off and actually look a funky combination of smaller and larger depending on where you viewed it from.

The tree is fine the way it is. It would look odd if it were taller.

Is the tree smaller now that it once was? Because I remember it being huge.

As a comparison, the Christmas tree in Disneyland Paris is 79 ft tall.

DL's tree is huge. I really don't think it needs to be any bigger.
