  • [Pictures] Amazing Jack Wrather

I found the signed letter below in my most recent archival outing. What is most amazing to me about this letter is, this was drafted while Jack Wrather was battling cancer (the first time) yet he was still working full speed while undergoing treatments. Cancer treatments are no fun as we all know and they were even more strenuous back in the 70's. Jack would eventually go into remission with this first round of cancer but it would rear its ugly head again just three years later and would eventually take his life. He certianly lead an adventurous life.

This telegram about sums it up. Written by the one-time Governor of Texas and Jack Wrather's father-in-law. Isn't this cool?

Thanks for all the lessons you bring to us about the development of the Disneyland Hotel. Very interesting information that would probably be lost, or at least completely forgotten about how the resort came to be.
Stalking is when two people go for a long romantic walk together but only one of them knows about it.

The important take away and not just for Jack Wrather but, a great many of people who have experienced war first hand (World War II in this case). After arriving back in the USA after a war, they had/have a tremendous respect for life. By working hard, they can achieve success. In Jack's case, he witnessed some pretty severe and traumatic happenings in the war and he was determined to make it home and build a life for himself and his family. He knew it would not be accomplished by staying in the oil business .... he wanted to create fun for families. The mariiage between Wrather & Disney was a perfect fit. Jack Wrather was determined to create family fun and memories and so was Walt Disney. Jack had the means ($), Walt had the Park, there was a need for family lodging and the rest is history. Wrather lived up to his promises by complementing the Happiest Place on Earth quite nicely with his accomodations.
