Not dark in the sense of being scary or anything like that. I mean dark as in too little light.
I have noticed in my past 3-4 trips to Disneyland that the dark rides seemed a little too dark. I don't know if it's just the fact that my eyes suck and it takes me a little longer to adjust to dark areas after standing in the bright sun, but the Fantasyland rides are the biggest offenders, imo. There are moments in those rides where I feel like I can't see a single thing. Like the lighted parts aren't quite lit enough or the black light paint isn't as bright as it used to be.

    Am I the only one?

    Getting old? just kidding.

I like the darkness. I think you can only see what's intended to be seen that way.
    Just sayin'

Interesting, I've heard complaints that they are too bright.

It's just too bright in the lines. The rides are much more enjoyable after dark. You can always wear sunglasses and squint for about ten minutes before going in.

Har har har I know all the lights should be on, right?

Serious question, guys lol. I asked because my sister in law had mentioned the same thing after they visited Disneyworld a couple years ago. I think most of it is going from the bright sun into a dark area like greenalfonzo said. We should all just start wearing eye patches like the pirates did so they could see when they went below decks.

It really does make a world of difference. The Haunted Mansion is practically a completely different attraction when riding at night (I prefer it during the day as the lack of night vision helps mask some of the effects and adds to the spookiness).

I went on Pinocchio last week and could barely see anything since my eyes were bothering me from it being so dark. My friends all looked at each other said, "is it really dark in here?"

I don't remember the rides seeming so dark. That's the thing. I never used to have problems walking into a dark ride and seeing things perfectly fine.

One of the main reasons I prefer the DL Haunted Mansion to the WDW version is that the WDW version is noticeably darker than it needs to be.

I feel like it largely depends on the time of day I ride. Ride during the day... it seems to dark. Ride at night, and everything looks bright! I think your eyes may just be playing tricks on you. If you're looking for a brighter ride, try riding later at night after your eyes have adjusted to the low light outside!

I guess I haven't had that experience. I ususally think the rides should be a little darker so I couldn't see the walls or wires. My hubby usually forgets to take off his sunglasses so he thinks it is WAY too dark! lol

I don't think the Dark Rides are too dark, more like just right. Maybe the eyes adjusting to the dark take too long and therefore the lighted bits are just not showing up?

i agree. when you go on a dark ride during a bright day, you cant see anything! its so disorienting, but kinda fun! If you actually want to SEE whats going on in the ride, then you have to go at night when your eyes are adjusted!
